Giants interview Jason Garrett for offensive coordinator position

Jason Garrett is no longer under contract with the Dallas Cowboys, effective Jan. 14, and that frees him up to seek employment elsewhere without Jerry Jones’ permission following the hiring of Mike McCarthy. Granted, the drawn-out and exceedingly awkward divorce from the Cowboys was his idea, but it cost him valuable time in finding a new role as a head coach — given how quickly teams were moving to fill their vacancies. There was still an opportunity he’d secure a role as someone’s head coach in 2020, however, as evidenced by the New York Giants seeking permission from the Cowboys to speak with Garrett prior […]

While commissioner Rob Manfred has cleared Carlos Beltran of possible discipline in the Houston Astros’ sign-stealing scandal of 2017, the New York Mets’ silence about their newly hired manager continues. Sources told ESPN that the Mets are assessing the situation involving Beltran, who is supposed to open spring training with the team next month in what would be his rookie season as a big league manager. Historically, the Mets have been sensitive to criticism in the New York market. In recent days, there have been hard questions raised in the media about Beltran’s past denials about his role in the Astros’ cheating scandal and […]

Chargers´Antonio Gates announces retirement

Los Angeles Chargers tight end Antonio Gates announced his retirement from the NFL on Tuesday after 16 seasons. Gates’ journey from college basketball standout at Kent State University – never playing a down of collegiate football – to redefining the TE position and breaking NFL records is one of the great stories in Chargers and NFL history. Gates walks away from the field with 116 touchdown receptions – the most by a TE in NFL history. At the TE position, he also ranks first in league history with 21 career multi-touchdown games and fourth in league annals with 21 100-yard […]

Nationals to bring back infielder Asdrubal Cabrera

The Nationals have agreed to terms with infielder Asdrubal Cabrera on a one-year, $2.5 million deal, per multiple reports.  Cabrera, 34, won a ring with the Nationals last season. He was signed by the Rangers in January but then released on August 3. Three days later, the Nationals signed him as a free agent. In 38 games down the stretch, Cabrera slashed .323/.404/.565 with six homers and 40 RBI while walking more times than he struck out. He wasn’t quite as productive in the postseason, hitting .233/.250/.267.  Cabrera can handle second or third base adequately, in theory, but he’s lacking range at this point in his […]
