LA Clippers acquire Eric Bledsoe from Memphis Grizzlies for Patrick Beverley, Rajon Rondo, Daniel Oturu

The LA Clippers have traded Patrick Beverley, Rajon Rondo and Daniel Oturu to the Memphis Grizzlies for guard Eric Bledsoe, the Clippers revealed Monday. The deal saves the Clippers $30 million in luxury tax and creates an $8.3 million traded-player exception that they will have a year to use. Bledsoe, 31, was drafted by the Clippers in 2010 and spent the first three years of his career with the franchise. A two-time member of the NBA’s All-Defensive team, Bledsoe is anticipated to play a significant role in the Clippers’ guard rotation. “We are excited to add Eric, a strong, versatile guard and an established playmaker who can attack the paint […]

Arizona Diamondbacks’ Tyler Gilbert tosses MLB’s eighth no-hitter of the season in first start

Tyler Gilbert, gotten by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 draft only eight months ago, threw a no-hitter in the first start of his major league career on Saturday night. He did so by blanking a star-studded San Diego Padres lineup while toeing the rubber for a last-place team, writing one of the most improbable sports stories of 2021. Gilbert, 27, became the fourth pitcher in baseball history to throw a no-hitter in his first big league start. Only two have done that since the start of the 20th century, most recently Bobo Holloman in 1953. “Amazing,” Gilbert […]

LA Clippers re-sign Kawhi Leonard to 4-year, $176.3 million max deal

Kawhi Leonard will stay with the LA Clippers long term after re-signing with the team Thursday on a four-year, $176.3 million max contract. The deal contains a player option in the fourth year. Leonard had previously declined his player option for $36 million the upcoming season to become a free agent. He told the team last Friday that he was returning to the Clippers, who finalized the deal nearly a week later. “Kawhi is a transcendent player and a relentless worker who improves himself every day,” said Lawrence Frank, the team’s president of basketball operations, in a statement. “We share many of the […]

Los Angeles Angels have no plans to shut down Mike Trout for season

Los Angeles Angels general manager Perry Minasian reiterated Wednesday that there aren’t any plans to shut down star outfielder Mike Trout for the rest of the campaign. The three-time American League MVP has not played since May 17 after going on the injured list with a right calf strain. The original prognosis was six to eight weeks, but Trout has been out of the lineup for 12 weeks since sustaining the injury. Wednesday marked the 75th match that Trout missed, which is his longest stint of missed games in his 11-year career. Trout’s progress stalled after he felt some discomfort after a couple […]

Happ, Cards bullpen combine on 1-hitter, top Pirates 4-1

J.A. Happ combined with a trio of relievers on a one-hitter, Tommy Edman and Paul DeJong homered early and the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the skidding Pittsburgh Pirates 4-1 on Tuesday night. Happ (6-6) retired the first nine batters, then gave up rookie Hoy Park’s first career home run to lead off the fourth inning. ”I was able to get a couple of quick outs to manage the pitch count and (catcher Yadier Molina) was great back there and we were on the same page all night,” Happ said. “I was just trying to execute pitches and it turned out pretty well.” Making his second start for the Cardinals since […]

Zoffarelli Wins La Jolla Handicap Via Disqualification In U.S. Debut

Red Baron’s Barn or Rancho Temescal’s Zoffarelli, in from England just a week earlier and unable to even get a work in over the Del Mar track, didn’t let that stop him as he ran well and survived a bumping match through the stretch to be declared the winner of the $150,500 La Jolla Handicap Sunday at the seaside track north of San Diego, Calif. The bay gelding by Zoffany actually was second across the wire just a nose behind Yuesheng Zhang’s Sword Zorro and just a head in front of Double L. Racing or Baffert’s Hudson Ridge in a […]

Pujols homers against team that cut him, Dodgers beat Angels

Albert Pujols hit his first home run versus the Los Angeles Angels since they released him in May, sending Walker Buehler and the Dodgers to an 8-2 victory Sunday. Cody Bellinger, the former NL MVP who has struggled mightily this season, homered for the second consecutive game, helping the World Series champions take two of three at Dodger Stadium in the Freeway Series. Trea Turner, making his second start as the leadoff batter for the Dodgers since being obtained with Max Scherzer in a trade with Washington, scored twice. Pujols hit a two-run homer in the second inning, connecting as a pinch-hitter for Justin Turner, who exited with […]

Rafael Nadal loses to 50th-ranked Lloyd Harris at Citi Open

The good news for Rafael Nadal was that his painful left foot felt much better Thursday at the Citi Open. The bad news? His debut appearance at the tournament ended after two rough outings. Victor Oladipo agrees to stay with Miami Heat on 1-year deal

Free agent Victor Oladipo agreed to a one-year, minimum deal to stay with the Miami Heat, a source told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Wednesday. He will continue to rehab his quadriceps tendon injury through the start of the campaign, a source told ESPN. Oladipo, 29, emerged as an All-NBA player with the Indiana Pacers in a breakout 2017-18 season but has struggled with consistency in his comeback from a devastating knee injury he suffered in 2019.
