Luka Doncic (calf strain) out for Mavericks’ preseason finale

Luka Doncic suffered a mild left calf strain during the Dallas Mavericks’ trip to Spain and has been ruled out of Friday’s preseason finale, coach Jason Kidd told reporters after Monday’s practice. Kidd stated Doncic would be “reevaluated later” and expressed hope that he would be available for the Mavs’ Oct. 25 opener on the road versus the San Antonio Spurs. Doncic was limited to riding the exercise bike and spot shooting during Monday’s practice. Looking for the best online betting site and Live betting? Visit Heritage Sports! Edson Barboza completes comeback, outlasts Sodiq Yusuff

Sodiq Yusuff absolutely pummeled Edson Barboza throughout the first round of their featherweight main event on Saturday in Las Vegas. Unfortunately for Yusuff, it wasn’t a one-round fight. Barboza (24-11) survived a dreadful opening round en route to a comeback unanimous decision victory at UFC Fight Night. All three judges called it for Barboza, via scores of 49-46, 48-46 and 48-46. Yusuff, 30, hurt Barboza badly with punches in the opening round, to the point it looked like the veteran was out on his feet. Barboza recovered, however, and went on to control the majority of the remaining 20 minutes. “I really felt […]

Thompson vows Warriors contract situation won’t be distraction this season

Klay Thompson is entering an important part of his NBA career. The four-time champion will play his 13th NBA season with the Warriors, which also happens to be a contract year for Thompson as he is set to be a free agent in 2024. Thompson is looking at this season with a clear mind, though, and guaranteed the pressure that comes with a contract year won’t be a distraction over the course of the season. “It’s not going to be a thing,” Thompson told The Athletic’s Anthony Slater. “The fact that I’m going into my 13th season — that alone — it gives me such peace […]

Astros close out Twins, advance to ALCS vs. Rangers

The Battle of Texas is on. One day after the Texas Rangers locked down a spot in the American League Championship Series, the Houston Astros clinched their seventh successive ALCS bid with a 3-2 triumph over the Minnesota Twins to win their division series 3-1. The Astros relied on the formula that has brought them so much postseason success in recent years, including during their World Series championship last year: home runs and pitching. Jose Abreu, their prized free agent signing over the winter, hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning to put the Astros ahead 3-1, and […]

Braves’ historic double play caps Game 2 NLDS comeback win

A historic and improbable double play sparked by Michael Harris II capped the Braves’ dramatic series-tying comeback in Game 2 of the National League Division Series on Monday night versus the Phillies. Having rallied from a four-run deficit, the Braves were clinging to a 5-4 lead in the ninth inning with Bryce Harper on first base and Nick Castellanos up to bat with one out. Castellanos hit a fly ball to deep right-center field that would have been a home run in five major league ballparks and that StatCast gave a .610 expected batting average. Harris, though, read it quickly, telling reporters after the game: “I knew off […]

After two weeks on the road, the Texas Rangers are headed home up 2-0

On the last day of the regular season, with the Texas Rangers trailing the Seattle Mariners 1-0, Marcus Semien came to the plate. Ahead of him to lead off the frame, Evan Carter, the phenom in his first month in the majors, had singled. Semien, representing the go-ahead run, couldn’t help but consider the stakes. “I hit a homer, I get to go home,” he thought to himself. He did not hit a homer. Instead, Semien struck out, and two batters later, the Rangers lost the game and lost the American League West to the Houston Astros. In the span of a few hours during which every team played Game […]

LeBron James to miss Lakers preseason opener, but is ‘100% healthy’

LeBron James won’t be on the court with the Los Angeles Lakers for their preseason opener versus the Golden State Warriors on Saturday. James and the Lakers, however, aren’t concerned one bit. Despite being the oldest player in the league, and coming off a season where he missed 27 matches due to a right foot injury, James is “100% healthy.” “He looks fine,” coach Darvin Ham said Thursday, via ESPN. “He looks like third- or fourth-year LeBron.” James averaged 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 6.8 assists last season, his fifth with the Lakers. James, however, has yet to play a full season since arriving in Los […]

James Harden joins 76ers training camp after 2-day absence

For one day, at least, there was no drama surrounding the Philadelphia 76ers. After skipping both the media day on Monday in Camden, New Jersey, and the opening practice of training camp at Colorado State University on Tuesday, 76ers star James Harden rejoined his teammates for their second practice on Wednesday under new coach Nick Nurse. Harden participated in “virtually” the entire practice and by the accounts of everyone involved “looked good” while doing so. “He looked good,” Nurse said after practice concluded at Moby Arena. “He looked good, participated in the majority of practice, anyway, and looked like he’s physically in good […]

Diamondbacks erase early deficit again and beat Brewers 5-2 to sweep NL Wild Card Series

Two years after suffering through a 110-loss season, the Arizona Diamondbacks are spraying champagne and heading to the NL Division Series. They feel like they belong, too. “In ’22, you kind of saw the shift toward the end of the year, and then we came in this year and this is what we expected to do,” Zac Gallen said after he pitched the Diamondbacks to a 5-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday night and a sweep of their NL Wild Card Series. “We expected to be playing in October.” It’s the first NL Division Series for the franchise since 2017. The Diamondbacks will take […]
