Padres’ Xander Bogaerts has fractured shoulder, lands on IL

San Diego Padres All-Star second baseman Xander Bogaerts broke his left shoulder attempting a diving pickup and was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday. “I’m not a big timetable guy,” Padres manager Mike Shildt said. “Obviously he’ll be on the sidelines for a period of time. It’s really impossible to say how long. We’re still gathering information.” Bogaerts injured his shoulder while diving for a ground ball in the first game of a doubleheader Monday versus the Atlanta Braves. Bogaerts was escorted off the field after being evaluated by training staff. Looking for the best online betting site and Live betting? Visit Heritage […]

Jaylen Brown’s 3 rescues Celtics in Game 1 thriller vs. Pacers

The Indiana Pacers, massive underdogs in these Eastern Conference finals, coming off a dramatic triumph over the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden to advance to this series 48 hours earlier, had the ball and were up three with 10 seconds left. They only needed to inbound the ball and hit a free throw to seal the victory. But then Indiana threw the ball away, giving the Celtics life. And after a spectacular inbounds pass from Jrue Holiday — one of many spectacular moments from him en route to a 28-point, 7-rebound, 8-assist, 3-steal performance — to Jaylen Brown in the corner permitted Brown to rise […]

Euro 2024: Rashford out of England squad; Eze, Mainoo in

England manager Gareth Southgate named his provisional 33-man squad for Euro 2024 with call-ups for Eberechi Eze, Marc Guehi and Kobbie Mainoo, but there was no place for Marcus Rashford or Jordan Henderson. Southgate included five uncapped players in total — Liverpool’s Curtis Jones and Jarell Quansah, Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton and Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford — as part of an expanded group strong in attacking talent. Cole Palmer, Anthony Gordon and Ollie Watkins were rewarded for fine seasons with Chelsea, Newcastle and Aston Villa, respectively, while Brentford forward Ivan Toney was also included despite returning in January from an eight-month suspension for breaching Football Association betting rules. Jack Grealish was selected despite starting just 10 league games in Manchester City’s title-winning campaign, while Mainoo’s dramatic elevation continues having only made his full league debut for Manchester […]

Aaron Rodgers embraces pressure of Jets’ do-or-die season

Aaron Rodgers is back as the starting quarterback of the New York Jets — healthy, confident and ready for a potential do-or-die season for himself and the entire organization. “If I don’t do what I know I’m capable of doing, we’re all probably going to be out of here,” Rodgers said Tuesday after his second OTA practice — the first open to the media. “I like that kind of pressure, though.” The four-time MVP amplified the narrative surrounding the Jets, that the fates of coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas likely hinge on the 2024 season. The Jets are 18-33 under […]

Patrick Reed out of U.S. Open qualifying, ends majors streak

Patrick Reed’s streak of playing every major since the 2014 Masters ended Monday when he withdrew from U.S. Open qualifying, leaving the LIV Golf player no other avenue to earn a spot at Pinehurst No. 2. Reed did well enough in the Masters (tie for 12th) to move enough into the top 100 in the world, and the PGA Championship gave him an invitation to play last week at Valhalla. The U.S. Open took the top 60 in the world from this week’s ranking. Reed is at No. 92 — he would have needed third place at Valhalla to crack […]

Dallas Mavericks rally to eliminate Oklahoma City Thunder

For the second time in three seasons, Luka Doncic has led the Dallas Mavericks to the Western Conference finals. Doncic is surrounded by a drastically different supporting cast in this case, headlined by his co-star, Kyrie Irving. Irving and Doncic combined for 51 points and 13 assists in the 117-116 Game 6 victory Saturday, eliminating the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder. As was the case throughout the series, role players in their first season on the Dallas roster made critical contributions as the Mavs came back from a 17-point second-half deficit. Forward P.J. Washington, who was obtained at the trade deadline and saved the Mavs with his shooting in […]

Manchester City wins historic 4th consecutive Premier League title

Manchester City cruised to its fourth consecutive English Premier League title, and sixth in seven years, with a characteristically dominant 3-1 victory over West Ham on Sunday. City entered the EPL’s final day two points ahead of Arsenal, knowing that a victory would yield yet another trophy. And to get that victory — plus a celebratory pitch invasion — it hardly had to fret or sweat. Precisely 78 seconds after kickoff, Phil Foden blasted City into the lead. Sixteen minutes later, Foden doubled the lead, and pushed West Ham seemingly out of sight. The Hammers responded with a bicycle-kick goal out of nothing just before halftime — and suddenly, tentatively, minor […]

Oleksandr Usyk edges Tyson Fury by split decision, now undisputed

There hadn’t been an undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis defeated Evander Holyfield in a rematch of all-time greats in November 1999 in Las Vegas. Halfway around the world — and nearly 25 years later — another undisputed champion in boxing’s glamour division was crowned when Oleksandr Usyk floored Tyson Fury in Round 9 en route to a split decision triumph early Sunday at sold-out Kingdom Arena. The wait was well worth it as both men delivered a fight befitting the prize they were competing for. One judge scored it 114-113 for Fury but was overruled by scores of 114-113 […]
