The Seattle Seahawks have suffered their first significant injury of training camp. Late in practice, first-round pick L.J. Collier went down with a right leg injury after getting tangled with an offensive lineman during a move-the-ball team period. Adam Schefter has now reported that Collier suffered a high-ankle sprain. The injury will likely keep him out the entire preseason, if not longer.
Collier was clearly in a lot of pain right after the play. He ended up hobbling off under his own power but couldn’t put much weight on his right leg. The trainers worked on him off to the side for a few minutes before Collier was ultimately taken off the field on a cart.
“I just saw him go down. Looked like he was in a lot of pain,” offensive tackle Duane Brown said. “I’m hoping he’s alright. He’s going to be a good player. I’m looking forward to working with him as well. Someone I think who has a lot of ability, a lot of potential. Still kind of raw in his technique, but I’m looking forward to working with him.”
Collier refused help off the field from the training staff and walked off on his own with a pronounced limp.

Seattle selected the TCU product with the 29th-overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. With Ezekiel Ansah uncertain to play in the opener, there was hope that Collier would be able to contribute immediately. Cassius Marsh, Quinton Jefferson and Jacob Martin are now the team’s primry edge rushers.
Collier posted six sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss as a senior for the Horned Frogs in 2018. Check back for updates when the Seahawks report specifics on Collier’s injury.
Collier has not seen much time with the No. 1 defense during training camp, but the Seahawks have been expecting him to contribute right away along a defensive line that has taken some major hits this offseason with the trade of Frank Clark and more recently Jarran Reed’s six-game suspension.
