Aaron Judge fully healthy entering Yankees’ spring training

Yankees star Aaron Judge is “as healthy as he’s been” since entering the big leagues, manager Aaron Boone revealed Sunday.

The 26-year-old slugger has dealt with a variety of injuries throughout his career, including shoulder and wrist issues that caused him to miss some time. He had arthroscopic shoulder surgery after the 2017 season and wasn’t fully recovered entering last year’s spring training. But that won’t be the case this year.

“He’s so much further ahead of the game from where he was last year,” Boone said, per ESPN. “A lot of his winter [last year] was poured into the rehab of the shoulder. “This year, it’s been about having a normal offseason, getting his body into excellent position. When you talk to him, I think he’s really excited of where his shoulder is at right now, certainly compared to this time last year. The maintenance he’s had to do on it really the last couple of years, feels like, in a lot of ways, he’s through that.”

Boone also indicated Judge isn’t dealing with any “lingering effects” of the wrist injury that kept him off the field for nearly two months last season. He suffered a chip fracture July 26 after he was hit by a 94 mph fastball, and was cleared to play Sept. 14.

Judge, entering his fourth season with the Yankees, has hit 83 home runs and 191 RBIs in 294 career games. The two-time All-Star had a strong postseason after dealing with his wrist injury, batting .421 with three home runs and four RBIs in five playoff games.

The 26-year-old Judge was sidelined for almost two months last season with a wrist injury when a pitch hit him in July. Last season, Judge batted .278 with 27 home runs and 67 RBIs. In five postseason games, Judge batted .421 with three home runs and four RBIs. The Yankees lost last season’s American League Division Series to the eventual World Series champion Red Sox.
