Raptors advance to first NBA finals

Kyle Lowry stole the ball and pushed it ahead, then waited for Kawhi Leonard to arrive before feeding his All-Star teammate for a thunderous one-handed slam over Giannis Antetokounmpo. “The building exploded after that dunk,” Leonard said. It sure did. Now imagine how it will sound when the National Basketball Association (NBA) Finals come to Toronto for the first time next week. Kawhi Leonard arrived in Toronto thinking he could pick up another championship to go with the one he already has. One more victory and he’ll play for another ring. And dominant performances like he put up Thursday night are a big reason why. Leonard scored 35 points and the Raptors beat the Milwaukee Bucks 105-99 to take a 3-2 lead in the Eastern Conference finals. “I’m not afraid of the moment,” Leonard said. “This is what I work out for in the summer. I’m just trying to win. It’s a matter of me being aggressive and don’t shy away from […]

Padres look for sweep of D-backs

“Sweep” isn’t a word the San Diego Padres have heard much around Petco Park this season. They do have one home sweep — a two-game interleague blitz of the Seattle Mariners on April 23-24. But the Padres’ overall home record is 13-14 this season, and they lost three of four at Petco Park last weekend to the Pittsburgh Pirates. However, they go into the Wednesday afternoon finale of a three-game series against Arizona with a chance to sweep the Diamondbacks. The Padres set up those possibilities with back-to-back, one-run wins over Arizona — 2-1 Monday night on Franmil Reyes’ two-run homer and 3-2 Tuesday night on Eric […]

Cole Ragans needs 2nd TJ surgery

More injury news came from the Texas Rangers’ farm system Monday, and it’s more bad news for former first-round pick Cole Ragans.
