Former Los Angeles Angels outfielder Kole Calhoun agreed to a contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday. League sources told ESPN and MLB Media that Calhoun and the Diamondbacks are in agreement on a two-year, $16 million deal. The contract also includes a third-year club option for $9 million, with a $2 million buyout. “This is really kind of a dream come true, honestly,” Calhoun said Monday. “I’m born and raised here, grew up a Diamondback fan. Anybody who dreams of playing in the big leagues and you get there, your dreams come true. But as a kid growing up, I always dreamed of playing for the Diamondbacks […]

Orioles sign free agent pitches Kohl Stewart

The Orioles snuck in a major league free agent signing before the year closed, signing former Minnesota Twins first-round draft pick Kohl Stewart on Sunday to represent their first such acquisition of the offseason. Stewart, 25, was selected fourth overall in 2013 by Minnesota but struggled to live up to that promise with the Twins. He made his major league debut in 2018 and made 17 appearances (six starts) for Minnesota in the past two seasons, with a 4.79 ERA and a 1.435 WHIP without many strikeouts. While he came out of St. Pius X High School in Houston, Texas, […]

Falcons bringing back coach Dan Quinn in 2020

The Atlanta Falcons have missed the postseason once again and are going to end with a record no better than 7-9 for the second straight season, but head coach Dan Quinn is going to have an opportunity to get the team back to its winning ways in 2020. On Friday, Falcons owner Arthur Blank announced that both Quinn and general manager Thomas Dimitroff will be back next season. “After weighing several factors, including our team’s statistical turnaround and our players’ focus and effort the second half of the season, I feel the decision to retain Thomas and Dan, with (President […]

Edwin Encarnacion signs with White Sox

Encarnacion reportedly agreed on Wednesday to a free-agent contract with Chicago for one year and $12 million. MLB Network’s Jon Heyman first reported that the deal was close before others reported that the deal was completed. The soon-to-be 37-year-old is one of the most accomplished power hitters of the past decade. Over the last eight campaings, he’s led MLB in total homers and RBIs, hitting no less than 32 long balls in each year during that span and reaching the 100-RBI mark six times.  The White Sox will be his fifth club in the last four years. After more than seven seasons — […]

Daniel Jacobs wins as Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. quits after 5th

The bizarre spiral of former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.’s career continued last Saturday in Phoenix, Arizona. The culmination of what was a whirlwind promotion in which Chavez skipped out on a drug test (forcing the fight to switch states) and miss weight by nearly five pounds ended when Chavez quit on his stool after Round 5 versus Daniel Jacobs and ran out of the ring while being pelted by garbage.  The exact reason for Chavez quitting was never properly resolved as he ditched out on the post-fight interview amid a showering of boos from the Talking Stick Resort […]

White Sox get Keuchel at 3 years deal

Dallas Keuchel did not have to wait around in free agency nearly as long this time around, as he agreed to a contract with the Chicago White Sox on Saturday, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN. Jon Heyman of MLB Network reported Keuchel’s deal will be worth $55.5 million over three years, with a vesting option that could push the total value up to $74 million The southpaw found himself in free-agent purgatory last offseason upon declining a qualifying offer from the Houston Astros. He did not find a home until June, when draft-pick compensation would no longer be tied to his signing. He ultimately settled […]

Nuggets go for fifth straight with Timberwolves

The Denver Nuggets have recovered from a disappointing road trip with a strong homestand. Friday will determine if they head into another couple of hard road matches on a winning streak or another disappointing defeat. The Nuggets are 4-0 since losing three of four games on an Eastern Conference swing, and to get their fifth straight victory would require beating a struggling Minnesota team. The Timberwolves have lost eight in a row and now embark on a four-game road trip. Minnesota’s streak continued Wednesday night with a loss to the New Orleans Pelicans — a team which entered that contest on its own 13-game […]

Through an interpreter, Kim said Tuesday he had followed the Cardinals and their success while growing up and hoped someday to play for St. Louis. At his Busch Stadium news conference, Kim held up a small sign that read “Hello STL.” He gets […]

Stephen Stasburg returns to Nationals

World Series MVP Stephen Strasburg on Monday agreed to terms with the Washington Nationals on a seven-year, $245 million contract, according to sources, six weeks after opting out of the final four years of his contract with the Nationals. There are no opt-outs or options in the contract, a source said. Some of the contract money is deferred. Gauged before the deferrals are assessed, the contract carries the highest average annual value — $35 million — for a pitcher and tops the prior record for total value for a pitcher — David Price’s $217 million — by $28 million. Those records are expected to be short-lived, as Gerrit […]
