Nationals ace Max Scherzer misses start due to fatigue on side

Washington Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer was removed from Tuesday’s scheduled start versus Miami due to fatigue on his right side. “There’s not even a strain. There’s no MRIs. There’s nothing like that,” Scherzer said. “This is purely just a fatigue and endurance thing.” The 35-year-old right-hander said his right side has lagged behind the rest of his body as he attempts to build strength in preparation for the campaign. Rangers outfielder Willie Calhoun undergoes surgery to repair broken jaw

Texas Rangers outfielder Willie Calhoun had surgery to repair his broken jaw Monday, a day after being hit in the face by a fastball. Surgeons were prepared to wire Calhoun’s jaw shut but instead installed a plate to steady the fracture, which should make for a faster recovery.  Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said Calhoun would be released from the hospital this week, possibly Tuesday, and will be re-evaluated in two weeks, at which time Texas may get a better idea of his timetable for a return. Jamal Murray hits late jumper to lift Nuggets over Hornets

Jamal Murray hit a running, off-balance 13-footer from the baseline with 5.1 seconds left and the Denver Nuggets overcame an eight-point fourth quarter deficit to defeat the Charlotte Hornets 114-112 on Thursday night. Murray had 18 points, and Nikola Jokic added 14 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. The Nuggets entered the match in third place in the Western Conference, a game behind the Los Angeles Clippers. Stephen Curry is scheduled to return from a more than four-month absence with a broken left hand to play for Golden State versus the Toronto Raptors on Thursday night. Mike Adams announces retirement

Safety Mike Adams has decided to call it a career. Adams announced his retirement during an appearance on NFL Network on Wednesday. Adams signed with the Texans last September and appeared in eight matches over the regular season and playoffs for the team. The 2019 season was Adams’ 16th in the NFL and that was an impressive run given the quiet start to his career. The Cincinnati Bengals plan to use the franchise tag on wide receiver A.J. Green, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. New York Yankees right-hander Luis Severino underwent Tommy John surgery on Thursday, the Yankees revealed. His 2020 season is over before it even started. The Yankees added that Severino had an existing bone chip removed from his elbow during the procedure. Jaguars decline 2020 option on DT Dareus

Though the Jacksonville Jaguars still “have interest” in defensive tackle Marcell Dareus, they declined Tuesday to pick up his option year for 2020. Speaking to reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine, Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell stated that picking up the $19 million option wasn’t really in the works on a contract Dareus signed last year.
