Cowboys hope to reach deal with Dak Prescott, avoid franchise tag

Time might be running out, but Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones stays confident a long-term deal can be worked out with quarterback Dak Prescott before the organization will need to use the franchise tag. Jones said there are no talks scheduled with Prescott’s agent, Todd France, but the team intends to meet with him here at some point this week during the NFL scouting combine. As the Milwaukee Bucks steam towards the top seed in the Eastern Conference and potentially 70 victories, officially clinching a playoff spot was a mere formality. Their spot in the postseason is now secure, and they made a bit of NBA history in the process. With the Washington Wizards’ loss Sunday night, the Bucks became the first team to clinch a berth in this season’s playoffs. Yankees shut down Luis Severino with forearm soreness

New York Yankees starter Luis Severino has been shut down with soreness in his right forearm. Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters Thursday that the right-hander will see Dr. Chris Ahmad, the team’s physician, Friday. However, GM Brian Cashman told reporters Severino won’t see the team doctor, adding that he’s uncertain if this is a short or long-term issue. The Minnesota Timberwolves can’t seem to catch a break. Trading for D’Angelo Russell before the deadline on Feb. 6 was met with a wave of optimism for the Wolves’ future going forward. They landed the point guard they’ve been chasing for almost a year, and it’ll subdue and fears of Karl-Anthony Towns bolting now that one of his best friends in the league is suiting up alongside him. The first domino of the Seattle Seahawks’ offseason plans has fallen into place. Late Tuesday afternoon, ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported former Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen signed with the Seahawks, a move that was later confirmed by the team. It had been reported earlier in February by Schefter himself there was mutual interest between the Seahawks and Olsen. The Cleveland Cavaliers and head coach John Beilein have discussed the option of him stepping down as head coach. ESPN reported late Sunday night that Beilein left for the All-Star break weighing his future as coach, including the possibility that the Feb. 12 victory versus the Atlanta Hawks was his final game in the NBA. Mariners´ Mitch Haniger undergoes second surgery

Mitch Haniger’s return to the Mariners for the 2020 campaign has been possibly delayed by yet another surgery. It was yet another unfortunate injury issue for the Mariners’ best player. Major league sources confirmed a report from ESPN’s Jeff Passan that Haniger underwent his second surgery in three weeks. While Haniger underwent a surgery to repair a sports hernia a few weeks ago, his most recent procedure was a discectomy, which is a procedure that removes part or the whole intervertebral disc. Red Sox promote Ron Roenicke to interim manager

The Boston Red Sox have replaced former manager Alex Cora with bench coach Ron Roenicke as interim manager, the team announced Tuesday. Cora parted ways with the team last month following his role in the Houston Astros sign-stealing scheme in 2017 when he was the Astros bench coach.
