We want to win, so just focused on having a good season and having fun with these guys. “We definitely tried to get it done, but it just didn’t work […]

Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins was carted off the field Thursday because of a noncontact injury to his left knee. He was examined by team trainers and emergency medical personnel before leaving the field on a cart. ‘Double loss’: Venezuela deflated after Altuve injury, WBC exit

It not only was a deflating loss for Team Venezuela — being ousted from the World Baseball Classic by Team USA on Saturday night — but the Houston Astros also lost All-Star second baseman Jose Altuve for an undetermined period of time after he suffered a right-hand injury during an at-bat. Altuve exited the match in the fifth inning after being drilled by a 96 mph fastball by Colorado Rockies relief pitcher Daniel Bard. Venezuela overcame a first-inning, three-run deficit and then managed a four-run rally after Altuve’s injury, but all their efforts proved futile when an eighth-inning grand slam from Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner secured the Americans’ 9-7 triumph […]

Warriors beat Suns 123-112 for 8th straight home victory

The Golden State Warriors were tired of losing to the division-rival Suns this season and set their mind on defending versus Phoenix just as they did against the talented Bucks last game. Klay Thompson scored 33 of his 38 points in the first half, Stephen Curry added 23 points, seven rebounds and five assists, and the Warriors defeated the Suns 123-112 on Monday night. “There’s always a little bit of extra motivation when you got smacked a couple times against a certain team but it’s more so about our own focus,” Curry said. Thompson made eight 3-pointers and shot 14 of 23 overall. “We knew […]

Bob Bryan replaces Mardy Fish as U.S. Davis Cup captain

One of many highlights of Bob Bryan’s time as half of a record-breaking men’s doubles duo was helping the United States claim the 2007 Davis Cup — the last time the country succeeded the competition. Now Bryan will try to end that drought from the sideline. The U.S. Tennis Association on Monday revealed Bryan’s appointment as Davis Cup captain, replacing Mardy Fish. Bryan’s first matches in charge will come during the group stage matches in September. Bryan and his twin brother, Mike, earned a record 16 Grand Slam championships together, 119 tour-level titles and an Olympic gold medal in doubles, finishing […]
