Panthers win franchise’s first title

In a thrilling conclusion to the Stanley Cup Final, the Florida Panthers defeated the Edmonton Oilers, 2-1, in Game 7 to capture the first NHL championship in franchise history and avoid a historic collapse. After racing to a 3-0 lead in the Stanley Cup Final, it seemed as if the Panthers would cruise to the franchise’s first title. However, struggles on both ends of the ice, combined with Edmonton outscoring Florida 18-5 during the three-game skid, erased their seemingly insurmountable lead and set up a dramatic Game 7. Playing in front of a raucous crowd at Amerant Bank Arena, the Panthers […]

Brazil ‘must improve’ after draw – Vinícius Jr.

Brazil forward Vinícius Júnior has recognized that he and his teammates “can and must improve” after their frustrating start to the Copa América. The Seleção were held to a goalless draw by Costa Rica in Monday’s Group D opener in Los Angeles. Brazil, who fielded an attacking line that included Real Madrid pair Vinícius and Rodrygo, had only three of their 19 shots hit the target. “We know we can improve, we have to improve,” Vinícius stated. “I also know what I can improve, evolve and do for our team.” Brazil struggled versus Costa Rica’s five-man defense, much to coach Dorival Junior’s exasperation as he eventually substituted Vinícius for Endrick in the 71st minute. But it’s going to be some time. We know with the right stuff we’re trying to aim after the All-Star Game, but we’re talking about something serious in […]

Blue Jays’ Orelvis Martinez gets 80-game ban for violating PED policy

Toronto Blue Jays infielder Orelvis Martinez was suspended 80 matches Sunday for violating Major League Baseball’s performance-enhancing drug policy, just two days after his big league debut. Martinez, 22, is the Blue Jays’ top hitting prospect and was called up this week after shortstop Bo Bichette was placed on the injured list.
