Barcelona open to Araújo transfer for right offer

Barcelona will consider letting Ronald Araújo leave if they receive an offer close to €100 million ($109m) for the centre-back, sources have told ESPN. Bayern Munich expressed an interest in Araújo in January and sources at Barcelona think the German champions will return with an offer in the summer. Another source told ESPN at least one big Premier League club are also monitoring the situation and are ready to make a move if Barça do finally encourage bids. Araújo, 25, last renewed his contract with Barça in 2022, penning a deal until 2026 with a €1 billion ($1.1b) release clause, a sign that the club considered him […]

Djokovic stunned by ‘lucky loser’ Nardi at Indian Wells

Luca Nardi used a combination of poise and power to stun his boyhood idol and top-seeded Novak Djokovic 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 on Monday night in the third round of the BNP Paribas Open. Nardi, who is ranked No. 123, closed out his huge upset over the No. 1 player in the rankings with an ace. The 20-year-old from Italy dropped his racket and brought his hands to his face almost in disbelief before greeting Djokovic at the net. “This is a miracle,” Nardi stated in an interview after the match on the Tennis Channel. “I’m a 20-years-old guy, 100 in the world, and […]

Jackson Merrill to join Padres for opener in Korea, Shildt says

San Diego Padres manager Mike Shildt stopped just short of declaring that shortstop prospect Jackson Merrill has already locked down an everyday role in his outfield, even though it has become fairly obvious throughout camp. All he would say Tuesday is that the 20-year-old shortstop-turned-center fielder will be on the Padres’ season-opening trip to South Korea. “He’s earned his way on the plane,” Shildt said shortly after watching Merrill hit an opposite-field home run off All-Star starter Zac Gallen. “He’s earned what’s coming after the plane.” The Padres started spring training with only two outfielders on their 40-man roster and promised to […]
