(espn.go.com)- It’s been a day of bad news for the Yankees — Nathan Eovaldi’s elbow injury, Brett Gardner’s shoulder injury and Mark Teixeira’s continuing bone bruise dominated the pregame conversation — but the good news is, they have a chance to regain the top spot in the AL East tonight with a win over the Orioles combined with a Toronto Blue Jays loss to the Boston Red Sox.

Masahiro Tanaka gets the start tonight in Game 2 of this three-game series; he is 1-1 with a 3.74 ERA in three lifetime starts against Baltimore. Tanaka beat the Orioles on July 23 at Yankee Stadium working into the eighth inning of a 9-3 Yankees win, allowing three runs on five hits, although three of them were home runs. Tanaka is coming off a lackluster performance against the Red Sox last Wednesday, in which he allowed four runs in 6 1/3 innings, but benefited from tremendous run support as the Yankees posted a 13-8 victory.

Here’s the Yankees lineup vs. Orioles RHP Kevin Gausman (2-6, 4.59):

Jacoby Ellsbury CF

Carlos Beltran RF

Brian McCann C

Alex Rodriguez DH

Greg Bird 1B

Chris Young LF

Didi Gregorius SS

Stephen Drew 2B

Brendan Ryan 3B

Tanaka (11-6, 3.75)

Gausman is 3-2 with a 2.94 ERA in 10 career appearances (four starts) against the Yankees. He lost to the Yankees here on July 22, allowing four runs on six hits, including home runs by Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira, in six innings of a 4-3 Yankees victory. … Joe Girardi said he was not sure if Gardner, who had an injection in his jammed left shoulder, was available in any capacity tonight. … The Yankees might be without Justin Wilson, Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller tonight, all three of whom pitched in each of the last two games.
