A young Thoroughbred with a celebrity namesake broke his maiden during the second day of Keeneland’s five-day Summer Meet. Fauci, a 2-year-old colt trained by Wesley Ward, notched his first career triumph during his second career start in the opening race at the Lexington track on Thursday. Tyler Gaffalione steered the heavy favorite to a hard-fought victory in the 5 1/2-furlong, $70,000 turf contest. Precautionary Quarantine of Belmont Park Barn Lifted

A precautionary quarantine placed on a Belmont Park barn due to a suspected case of Equine Herpesvirus-1 has been removed by officials at the New York Racing Association and New York State Gaming Commission after test results for a horse came back negative June 28. Freudnme, a 4-year-old colt trained by Chris Englehart, exhibited fever and neurological symptoms Saturday morning, which activated a precautionary quarantine of all 37 horses stabled in Barn 37 at Belmont. In addition, heightened biosecurity measures were immediately implemented throughout the barn, and all horses were monitored for fever and other symptoms. Gamine wins Acorn Stakes in record time

Gamine led all the way in winning the $300,000 Acorn Stakes for 3-year-old fillies by 18 3/4 lengths at Belmont on Saturday. Trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert, Gamine ran one mile in 1:32.55, fastest in the 90-year history of the race. Her time was just off the track record of 1:32.24 set by Najran in 2003. Gamine earned 50 qualifying points for the Kentucky Oaks on Sept. 4 at Churchill Downs. Hall of Fame horseman Steve Asmussen surpassed South Louisville native Dale Romans as the all-time leading trainer in Churchill Downs history when 4-year-old filly Drop Dead Gorgeous cruised to a 8 1/2-length triumph in Friday’s opener for win No. 738 beneath the historic Twin Spires. “If anyone knows American horse racing, they know what Churchill Downs means to the sport,” Asmussen stated. “This is a very significant honor. Away since his trip home from Saudi Arabia, Karl Watson, Mike Pegram, and Paul Weitman’s McKinzie returned to business June 7 and took the $200,000 Triple Bend Stakes (G2) at Santa Anita Park in a hand ride from Mike Smith. “This was a perfect out for him. Juddmonte’s Champion Arrogate dies at 7

Juddmonte Farms’ brilliant racehorse and promising stallion Arrogate  was euthanized June 2 after a weeklong battle with an apparent neurological illness, the cause of which is still undetermined. Winding down a successful third breeding season, Juddmonte reported that Arrogate’s breeding schedule had been suspended the last week in May due to a suspected sore neck. Later in the week, the 7-year-old son of Unbridled’s Song fell to the ground in his stall and efforts to get him back on his feet were unsuccessful. Belmont Stakes Contender Charlatan Reportedly Fails Drug Test

Belmont Stakes contender and unbeaten Charlatan was reportedly one of two horses trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert that tested positive for a banned substance. Joe Drape of the New York Times reported the news, noting Charlatan and his stablemate Gamine tested positive for lidocaine at a meet at Oaklawn Park in Arkansas. Charlatan won a division of the Arkansas Derby on May 2 and figured to challenge for another win at the Belmont Stakes. Gamine also won a race at Oaklawn Park on May 2. Belmont Stakes to Run June 20 as First Leg of Triple Crown

The 2020 Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park in New York has been postponed by two weeks from Saturday, June 6 to Saturday, June 20 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s edition of the race will be 1 1/8-miles (9 furlongs) instead of its traditional 1 1/2-miles.
