Prairie Meadows racehorse tests positive for meth

A horse that won a race at Prairie Meadows has tested positive for meth. The horse named Drag Malibu was drug tested shortly after winning the third race of the day on May 29. “The horse had trace amounts of methamphetamine in his body when the horse ran in the race,” stated Brian Ohorilko, administrator of the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission. Ohorilko added that they see positive drug tests a handful of times in the year, but a horse testing positive for meth is nearly unheard of. RED TR-Racing’s Kentucky Derby winner Rich Strike shortened up to 1 1/4 miles for his daily exercise on Monday and left the track wanting to do more in his daily gallop for Saturday’s $1.5 million Belmont Stakes. Three stakes—including a graded event—worth $200,000, highlight the Los Angeles County Fair meet at Los Alamitos Race Course. The 10-day season is calendared to begin Friday, June 24, and continue through Sunday, July 10. Led by the $3 million Kentucky Derby on Saturday, May 7, a record 53 stakes races that total $20.37 million will be staged at Churchill Downs Racetrack this spring and summer.
