LeBron has triple-double, Lakers defeat Nets

The Los Angeles Lakers handed the Brooklyn Nets their fifth straight loss by defeating them 128-113 at Barclays Center on Thursday night.  The Lakers led by as many as 10 points in the opening quarter, but Brooklyn climbed back and cut the deficit to 38-35 entering the second. That would be a trend throughout the match. The third quarter saw the Lakers with a 90-77 lead, only for the Nets to put together a 12-2 run and make it a one-possession game once again.  The Lakers were finally able to pull away in the fourth quarter, entering with a 10-point lead and building from there. Mets close to naming Luis Rojas new manager

The New York Mets are nearing an agreement with Luis Rojas to become the club’s new manager, general manager Brodie Van Wagenen informed reporters, including MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo. The Mets had an unexpected opening after the team parted ways with Carlos Beltran in the wake of the Astros sign-stealing scandal last week. The Mets informed Beltran, who was hired by the Mets in November, was out as the club’s manager three days after Beltran was the only player named in the league’s nine-page report summarizing the investigation into the 2017 Astros. Rojas, 38, has managed in the minors throughout the Mets system and was originally set to be the […]

Pelicans forward Zion Williamson excited ahead of NBA debut

Zion Williamson’s debut is emerging, with him set to make his long-awaited NBA debut on Wednesday night versus the San Antonio Spurs. The path back to the court hasn’t been easy for the No. 1 overall pick of the 2019 Draft, but he’s ready, at last, to play. “The rehab workouts are long and strenuous,” Williamson said Tuesday. “There were a lot of times where I wanted to punch a wall or kick a chair. It’s frustrating to not be able to move your body the way you want to, especially since I’m 19. It’s been tough, but I battled […]

Astros interview Dusty Baker for managerial opening

Former Washington Nationals manager Dusty Baker is in Houston to interview for the Astros’ managerial job opening. Baker told the Houston Chronicle on Thursday that he had not yet been contacted regarding the Astros’ opening. But sometime over the weekend, the team added him to their list. It was confirmed when he landed in Houston on Sunday night and spoke to reporters. “They got a good team,” said Baker, 70. “They’ve always had a good team and I’ve enjoyed watching them to play and it would be a privilege and an honor to be the manager of this team.” The Astros are searching for a manager with a […]

Giants interview Jason Garrett for offensive coordinator position

Jason Garrett is no longer under contract with the Dallas Cowboys, effective Jan. 14, and that frees him up to seek employment elsewhere without Jerry Jones’ permission following the hiring of Mike McCarthy. Granted, the drawn-out and exceedingly awkward divorce from the Cowboys was his idea, but it cost him valuable time in finding a new role as a head coach — given how quickly teams were moving to fill their vacancies. There was still an opportunity he’d secure a role as someone’s head coach in 2020, however, as evidenced by the New York Giants seeking permission from the Cowboys to speak with Garrett prior […]

Mets assessing manager Carlos Beltran after Astros fallout

While commissioner Rob Manfred has cleared Carlos Beltran of possible discipline in the Houston Astros’ sign-stealing scandal of 2017, the New York Mets’ silence about their newly hired manager continues. Sources told ESPN that the Mets are assessing the situation involving Beltran, who is supposed to open spring training with the team next month in what would be his rookie season as a big league manager. Historically, the Mets have been sensitive to criticism in the New York market. In recent days, there have been hard questions raised in the media about Beltran’s past denials about his role in the Astros’ cheating scandal and […]
