Luis Severino has Tommy John surgery, out for 2020 season

New York Yankees right-hander Luis Severino underwent Tommy John surgery on Thursday, the Yankees revealed. His 2020 season is over before it even started. The Yankees added that Severino had an existing bone chip removed from his elbow during the procedure. GM Brian Cashman announced earlier this spring that Severino, who was limited to three regular-season appearances in 2019, had dealt with forearm soreness dating back to October, when he made a pair of postseason starts for the Yankees. Jaguars decline 2020 option on DT Dareus

Though the Jacksonville Jaguars still “have interest” in defensive tackle Marcell Dareus, they declined Tuesday to pick up his option year for 2020. Speaking to reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine, Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell stated that picking up the $19 million option wasn’t really in the works on a contract Dareus signed last year. With that deal, Dareus would have received a base salary of $9.5 million in 2020 with a $10 million roster bonus due on March 22. New York Yankees starter Luis Severino has been shut down with soreness in his right forearm. Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters Thursday that the right-hander will see Dr. Chris Ahmad, the team’s physician, Friday. However, GM Brian Cashman told reporters Severino won’t see the team doctor, adding that he’s uncertain if this is a short or long-term issue.
