Chiefs fire DC Bob Sutton following loss to Patriots

The Kansas City Chiefs announced they’ve fired defensive coordinator Bob Sutton after a disappointing season on that side of the ball. “Bob is a good football coach and a great person,” head coach Andy Reid said in a statement released by the team. He continued: “He played an integral role in the success of our team over the last six seasons. I’ve said before that change can be a good thing, for both parties, and I believe that is the case here for the Chiefs and Bob. This was not an easy decision, but one I feel is in the best interest of the Kansas City […]

Reds strike deal for Yanks’ Sonny Gray after pitcher inks extension

The Yankees have traded starting pitcher Sonny Gray to the Cincinnati Reds, the teams announced Monday, finalizing a days-in-the-making deal that ends Gray’s topsy-turvy stint with New York. Both sides completed a deal that was contingent upon the Reds reaching a contract extension with the 29-year-old Gray, who agreed to a three-year, $30.5 million extension that includes a $12 million club option for 2023, a source familiar with the deal told ESPN. Combined with his $7.5 million salary this season, Gray’s deal can max out at five years and $50 million. New York dealt Gray and minor league left-hander Reiver Sanmartin […]

Zuerlein 57-yard field goal sends Rams to Super Bowl

It took overtime, but the Rams were able to beat the Saints 26-23 in overtime to advance to the Super Bowl in Atlanta. The Rams won on a 57-yard field goal by Greg Zuerlein, who lived up to his “Legatron” nickname with the booming kick. The Saints were driving, and looked like they could be setting themselves up for a trip to the Super Bowl. However, an egregious no-call that forced the Saints to settle for a field goal to make it a 23-20 game in New Orleans’ favor. Instead, the Rams then got the football back with 1:45 remaining, and threatened to win the game with […]

Tiafoe stuns Anderson; Federer rolls

Frances Tiafoe rolled up his white shirt’s right sleeve, flexed his biceps and slapped the muscle five times. Then he pounded his chest and yelled, “Yeah! Let’s go! Let’s go! Come on!” Forgive the young American’s exuberance. This was, after all, the biggest victory of his nascent career. Down a set and 3-0 in the second, the 20-year-old Tiafoe came back to stun two-time Grand Slam finalist and No. 5 seed Kevin Anderson of South Africa 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 7-5 on Wednesday in the Australian Open’s second round. “I went to a different place. I dug insanely deep,” the 39th-ranked […]
