Carlos Alcaraz tops Arthur Rinderknech in Queen’s Club opener

Carlos Alcaraz came from a set down Tuesday to defeat lucky loser Arthur Rinderknech in the top-seeded player’s first match at the grass-court Queen’s Club Championships. Alcaraz won 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (3) versus the No. 83-ranked Rinderknech, a French player who only found out he was playing following the withdrawal of Arthur Fils a couple of hours before the match. Alcaraz faced difficulties in dealing with Rinderknech’s big serve and net coverage in what was the No. 2-ranked Spaniard’s seventh career match on grass, and first outside Wimbledon. Draymond Green declines player option, to become free agent

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green is declining his $27.6 million player option and will enter unrestricted free agency, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Monday. “We will continue to talk to Golden State and explore all options,” Paul told ESPN. It was expected Green would opt out; now he can talk with the Warriors as well as explore sign-and-trades and free agency. The Warriors, though, have been motivated to sign Green to a new deal, sources said. The four-time All-Star has been a pillar of the Warriors’ dynasty over the past decade after being drafted with the 35th […]

Red Sox win 4-1, 6-2 to sweep Yankees in doubleheader and series

It’s too bad baseball went away from the unbalanced schedules, because the Boston Red Sox could really use a bunch more games versus the New York Yankees. The Red Sox defeated their AL East archrivals 4-1 on Sunday night, completing a doubleheader and series sweep that brought them just two games behind their longtime nemeses in the division. Boston won the series opener 15-5, and then took Sunday’s day game 6-2 in a makeup of Saturday’s rainout. “We like playing them. They like playing against us,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said. “It’s fun playing against them. Regardless of where we are in […]

Golden Knights blast Panthers 9-3 in Game 5 to capture first Stanley Cup title

Golden Knights games have always been as flashy as any show on the Las Vegas Strip, the sword-fighting mascot taking the ice before what seems like a legion of players marching out through the mirrored entrance into the roar of the crowd. If this team was ever going to attain the Stanley Cup, it was going to do it with Vegas flash. The Knights delivered just that from dazzling passes to Mark Stone’s hat trick to all-out goal celebrations, capturing the young organization’s first title with a 9-3 romp over the beaten up and exhausted Florida Panthers on Tuesday night. Coach Bruce Cassidy, […]

Nuggets take home 1st NBA title in rugged 94-89 win over Heat

Confetti flying in Denver. The Nuggets sharing hugs while passing around the NBA championship trophy. Those scenes that, for almost a half-century, seemed impossible, then more recently started feeling inevitable, finally turned into reality Monday night. The Nuggets outlasted the Miami Heat 94-89 in an ugly, frantic Game 5 that did nothing to derail Nikola Jokic, who bailed out his teammates with 28 points and 16 rebounds on a night when nothing else seemed to work. Jokic became the first player in history to lead the league in points (600), rebounds (269) and assists (190) in a single postseason. Not surprisingly, he acquired […]

Jokic, Murray each post triple-doubles amid historic night in Nuggets’ G3 win

During the two days before Game 3, coach Michael Malone could sense the Denver Nuggets’ Game 2 loss weighing heavily on Jamal Murray. In their best and most important match as teammates, Jokic and Murray became the first duo to record 30-point triple-doubles, helping Denver rout the Miami Heat 109-94 to take a 2-1 lead in the NBA Finals. Diamondbacks rally against Nationals’ beleaguered bullpen in 10-5 win

Pavin Smith homered and drove in three runs and the Arizona Diamondbacks rallied versus Washington’s beleaguered bullpen to defeat the Nationals 10-5 on Tuesday night. Josh Rojas also had three RBI for Arizona, which moved ahead of Los Angeles for the NL West lead soon after the game when the Dodgers blew a late lead at Cincinnati. The Diamondbacks have gained seven of nine to improve to 36-25. “We just chipped away,” Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said after his team trailed 4-1 after one inning. “That was my mindset. It was still early. We had a chance to play catch-up if we did what […]

Adrian Griffin officially announced as new Bucks coach

Adrian Griffin is getting his first head coaching job at the same place where he started out as an assistant.
