Cody Bellinger, Los Angeles Dodgers agreed to 1-year, $17M deal before lockout

Slugger Cody Bellinger and the Los Angeles Dodgers agreed on a one-year, $17 million contract to avoid arbitration before the Dec. 1 lockout that has shut down Major League Baseball and frozen transactions, sources familiar with the agreement told ESPN. The deal was not revealed after the lockout, as teams are not referencing players by name during the work stoppage that has lasted more than three weeks and will stretch into the new year. Bellinger, 26, is coming off the worst season of his career, hitting .165/.240/.302 with 10 home runs in 95 matches. His postseason performance, however, rekindled memories of his 2019 season, […]

The Los Angeles Lakers have lost three matches in a row, have four players and their head coach in the NBA’s health and safety protocols and are still reeling from the news that Anthony Davis is expected to miss at least a month with a sprained MCL in his left knee. As the team tries to weather the maelstrom of maladies it is facing, former league MVP and nine-time All-Star Russell Westbrook has taken it upon himself to try to pull them out of it. However, acting head coach David Fizdale — filling in for Frank Vogel while he is recovering from COVID-19 — said the […]

Kevin Durant carries Nets to OT win as Brooklyn’s COVID-19 protocols list grows to seven, including James Harden

After a whirlwind day that saw the Brooklyn Nets lose six players to the NBA’s health and safety protocols — including James Harden and Bruce Brown within an hour of tipoff before an eventual 131-129 overtime victory versus the Toronto Raptors — coach Steve Nash stated he briefly wasn’t sure Tuesday night’s game would be played at all. With seven Nets players entering the NBA’s health and safety protocols in the preceding 24 hours, Brooklyn would not have had the required eight available to play versus Toronto had star forward Kevin Durant, who was questionable due to right ankle soreness, been unable to go. “We had to debate it,” Nash said.
