Two years after signing a four-year, $38 million contract extension with the Jacksonville Jaguars, wide receiver Marqise Lee finds himself in a much different place as he hopes to revitalize his career. He’s at the bottom with the New England Patriots — and embracing it. Lee, who was selected in the second round of the 2014 draft by the Jaguars and was released in April, was signed by the Patriots to a one-year contract with $300,000 guaranteed. He said he has landed in the right spot to put his past two injury-filled seasons behind him. The 6-foot, 196-pound Lee missed the 2018 season because of […]

Rays ace Blake Snell says he refuses to play for reduced MLB salary

Tampa Bay Rays star Blake Snell alleged he would not be playing this season for a reduced salary, particularly because the risk of getting coronavirus “is not worth it.” Snell protested Major League Baseball’s 50-50 revenue split with players for a season shortened by coronavirus in a video posted on social media on Wednesday. “You all have to understand, man, that I’m leaving – that I’m going to drop a salary, that’s not the case, because the risk goes through the roof,” said Snell when answering questions on his Twitch channel. “It’s a shorter season, less pay. “No, I must […]

MLB shortens 2020 draft from 40 to 5 rounds

Major League Baseball will cut its 2020 draft to five rounds, as owners looking to save costs in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic pushed for fewer rounds over the objection of front-office officials, sources told ESPN. The plan, which has been relayed to scouting directors, will let teams to sign an unlimited number of undrafted players for $20,000. The draft is expected to start June 10. Diodoro caps 52-win Oaklawn meet

Earlier in the Oaklawn Park meet, Robertino Diodoro had become just the fourth trainer in the track’s history to rack up 50 victories there in a single season. The Diodoro barn put an exclamation point on the season during closing Saturday with win No. 52 when Dunph, long ago a stakes winner, struck as a 57.8-1 winner in allowance optional claiming company. In a post-Jason Servis/Jorge Navarro racing world, however, winning at a 22% clip with a longshot first off the claim brings with it a certain level of mistrust.
