Detroit Red Wings at New Jersey Devils

Detroit Red Wings (16-8-5, 37 points) at New Jersey Devils (14-10-4, 32 points)
When: 7 p.m.
Where: Prudential Center, Newark, N.J.

It’s been nearly a month since the Detroit Red Wings lost in regulation. That’s only happened twice in almost 12 years against the New Jersey Devils.

The Red Wings try to get at least one point for a 13th straight game as they aim for their longest winning streak against the Devils on Friday night.

Detroit is 8-0-4 since a 3-1 loss at Boston on Nov. 14 had it middling with an 8-8-1 record.

The Red Wings (16-8-5) have since turned into contenders in the Atlantic Division, sitting four points back of first-place Montreal.

The Detroit Red Wings will look to build on last night’s victory over the Montreal Canadiens and trim the once elusive Atlantic division deficit to just two points with a victory tonight. The Red Wings have been playing very well over the last two weeks and coupled with Montreal’s tail spin the Wings have made up some serious ground and still have a game in hand as we approach the 30 game mark. The Wings in a back to back though are likely to start Jimmy Howard who has had a pretty decent season but has played second fiddle statistically to Petr Mrazek who has looked like the better of the two options so far this year. Howard will go up against Corey Schneider who continues to be the rock in goal for the Devils.
The Devils have cooled off lately and need to do a better job when playing on home ice as they are a modest 6-6-3 at the Prudential Center in comparison to their 8-4-1 mark on the road and while trends are bound to even out they should be playing better at home. New Jersey sits in fifth place in the Metro division and are just five points back of the Islanders for the third automatic divisional berth in the Eastern Conference postseason but with a win at home here against the Wings they can cut into that deficit and overtake the Penguins for fourth place. New Jersey will be in tough as the Wings are playing very well but I think Schneider makes the difference here in a game the Devils match up well in.
