Durant ruled out for game 4

Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant has been ruled out for Game 4 of the NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors. Warriors coach Steve Kerr announced the news at a Thursday press conference.

Durant has not played since May 8 when he injured his calf in Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals against the Houston Rockets. While the Warriors didn’t practice as a team today, Kerr was eager to see how Durant would handled playing basketball in simulated 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 scenarios.

Those scrimmages apparently did not happen as trainers deemed him unprepared. The Warriors, playing without Durant and Klay Thompson, lost Game 3 123-109 on Wednesday night to fall behind 2-1 in the series. Thompson, who suffered a hamstring strain in Game 2, will return to the lineup for Game 4. Stephen Curry scored 47 points in the Game 3 loss. Kawhi Leonard led the Raptors with 30 points. He was one of six Toronto players, including all five starters, to score in double figures.

The forward had made solid progress over the course of the team’s previous two practices, but has not reached a point where the organization is comfortable with him playing. Kerr insists that Durant did not have a setback in his recovery from a calf strain and that he does hope the All-Star will play at some point during this series.

Veteran guard Shaun Livingston acknowledged that the Warriors have to start preparing as if Durant’s not coming back in this series. “No question,” Livingston said. “I mean it’s a month, so of course, everybody in the world, on our side, is going to welcome him back when he’s ready. But only when he’s ready. So until then, we got to go out there like he’s not playing.”

If Durant does come back in this series, forward Draymond Green reiterated that he doesn’t think it will take much time for Durant to find a rhythm with the rest of his teammates — even with so much time off.
