On Tuesday, the organization announced that they agreed to terms with reserve offensive tackle Ty Sambrailo on a three year contract extension, keeping the player in Atlanta through 2021.
“We are excited to bring Ty back as a part of our brotherhood,” head coach Dan Quinn said of the decision to retain the strong side blocker. “His versatility has proven to be one of his many strengths. We look forward to him being a valuable piece of the offensive line.”
The terms of their agreement with the player were not immediately made known, but Sambrailo made $959,448 in base salary to play this past season.
By signing him now, the Falcons have prevented Sambrailo from becoming a free agent. Sambrailo came to Atlanta initially back at the beginning of the 2017 season when the Falcons organization orchestrated a trade in which they sent their fifth round draft pick in 2018 to the Denver Broncos in exchange for the player.

This past season, Sambrailo was a reserve behind starting right tackle Ryan Schraeder, but earned the starting position there for the final four games of the regular season, also playing at the left guard spot after the season ending injury to starter Andy Levitre, and their decision to rotate different players there down the stretch.
Originally a second round draft pick four years ago by Denver, Sambrailo has started 13 career NFL contests in his career, including starting in six games for the Falcons.
Quinn has hinted that the offensive line could undergo some important changes over the course of the coming offseason and into 2019, with the coach expressing some discontent with how the unit fared in the 2018 season, ranking third in the most quarterback hits allowed against Matt Ryan.
“I’m comfortable at center and left tackle,” Quinn said. “Past that, you scrub every bit of it.” Ryan was sacked 42 times this past season, the eighth most in football and was hit over 100 times.
