The Marlins had a weekend series against the Mets. Miami lost the first two matchups before squeezing out a 1-0 shutout win on Sunday to prevent the sweep.
Meanwhile, the Twins are coming off a weekend set against the Rays. Minnesota took game one Thursday, but was swept in the remainder 4-2, 7-4 and 7-5, giving the team six losses in seven games.
The Marlins will be going with left-hander Adam Conley in Tuesday’s game. Over his 11 starts and 3-3 record this year, Conley has managed a 3.72 ERA with a 1.41 WHIP in 58 total innings. Back on Wednesday when we last saw him, Conley logged six shutout innings with nine strikeouts for a no-decision against the Pirates.

Miami boasts a pretty good-looking crew of hitters at the top end of their order. Marcel Ozuna leads the team on 66 hits with 35 runs, 11 homers and 29 RBI. Martin Prado isn’t far back with 64 hits, 20 runs and 16 RBI. Giancarlo Stanton has a team-high 12 homers with 21 runs and 27 RBI, but has been struggling on a .202 BA this year.

The Twins will be countering with left-hander Pat Dean on Tuesday. In his five games (three starts) and 1-2 record this year, Dean holds a 4.15 ERA with a 1.42 WHIP over 26 total innings. On Wednesday against the A’s, Dean was unremarkable on four runs on nine hits in five innings.

There is only a handful of noteworthy names on the Minnesota batting order right now. Eduardo Nunez is the only real breakout with 61 hits, 27 runs and 22 RBI with a .335 BA. Joe Mauer is playing pretty well with 56 hits, 19 runs and 21 RBI. Miguel Sano leads the team on 11 homers with 27 RBI, 42 hits and 25 runs but is hitting a paltry .235 right now.

The Marlins are 8-2 in their last 10 games against a left-handed starter, and 5-2 in their last seven games against the American League Central. Miami is also 1-5 in their last six following an off day, and 2-12 in their last 14 interleague road games.
As for the Twins, they’re 7-3 in their last 10 interleague games against a left-handed starter, and 19-42 in their last 61 against a team with a winning record. Minnesota is also 3-14 in their last 17 home games and 1-5 in their last six interleague games overall.
