Houston Astros finish off Chicago White Sox to reach 5th straight ALCS as Tony La Russa fumes over ‘intentional’ Jose Abreu plunking

The Houston Astros advanced to their fifth consecutive American League Championship Series on Tuesday by defeating the Chicago White Sox 10-1 in Game 4 of their best-of-five division series matchup. The Astros are the third team ever to appear in five consecutive league championship series, and first to do so since the Atlanta Braves reached eight straight from 1991 to 1999. For the second time in five days, Astros starter Lance McCullers Jr. held the White Sox’s offense in check, giving up just a solo home run, to designated hitter Gavin Sheets, in the second inning. But McCullers left the game after four innings due to right forearm tightness. His […]

Boston Red Sox bring back Alex Cora as manager

The Boston Red Sox have brought back manager Alex Cora less than one year after they let him go following MLB’s investigation into the Astros’ sign-stealing scheme, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reported. Cora, 45, led the Red Sox to the 2018 World Series championship in his first year at the helm and was with Boston for the 2019 season. In January 2020, the sides parted ways following the league’s investigation into the Houston Astros’ sign-stealing scheme. At the time of his firing, the league was also investigating sign-stealing allegations against the Red Sox that ultimately were deemed far more minor. Looking for the […]

Red Sox’s Chris Sale to undergo Tommy John surgery

The elbow issue that has dogged Boston Red Sox ace Chris Sale since last season has led to the worst case scenario. On Thursday the Red Sox announced Sale will undergo Tommy John surgery. He will miss the entire 2020 season and likely the start of the 2021 season as well. No surgery date has been announced. “Needless to say, this is a tough thing for Chris and a tough thing for all of us here with the Red Sox,” chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom told reporters, including the Boston Globe’s Alex Speier. Sale, 31 next week, was limited to […]

Red Sox promote Ron Roenicke to interim manager

The Boston Red Sox have replaced former manager Alex Cora with bench coach Ron Roenicke as interim manager, the team announced Tuesday. Cora parted ways with the team last month following his role in the Houston Astros sign-stealing scheme in 2017 when he was the Astros bench coach. Cora, who led the Red Sox to a World Series title in 2018, was not penalized in the Astros investigation because Major League Baseball is still investigating allegations that the Red Sox organization employed a similar system of using technology to steal signs during their World Series Championship season. “We were recently made aware of allegations […]
