Boston Red Sox bring back Alex Cora as manager

The Boston Red Sox have brought back manager Alex Cora less than one year after they let him go following MLB’s investigation into the Astros’ sign-stealing scheme, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reported. Cora, 45, led the Red Sox to the 2018 World Series championship in his first year at the helm and was with Boston for the 2019 season. In January 2020, the sides parted ways following the league’s investigation into the Houston Astros’ sign-stealing scheme. At the time of his firing, the league was also investigating sign-stealing allegations against the Red Sox that ultimately were deemed far more minor. Looking for the […]

Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni eager to coach if season resumes

Houston Rockets head coach Mike D’Antoni turns 69 on Friday, but ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reported D’Antoni “would have no reservations about being on the sideline if the NBA season resumes. Baxter Holmes of ESPN spoke to a pair of NBA general managers who expressed reservations about having older coaches and personnel work during the COVID-19 pandemic. “Based on all the information that we have today, probably people over 60 with preexisting conditions can’t go, for sure, no matter what their titles are,” one GM had stated. “Whether it’s a father of the star player or whether it’s the general manager […]

The Cleveland Cavaliers and head coach John Beilein have discussed the option of him stepping down as head coach. ESPN reported late Sunday night that Beilein left for the All-Star break weighing his future as coach, including the possibility that the Feb. 12 victory versus the Atlanta Hawks was his final game in the NBA. Beilein, 67, has talked about the difficult transition from college to the pros on a few different occasions, but said recently he had no regrets about his decision to join the Cavaliers and sign a five-year contract in May — even though he has had problems connecting to […]

Giants interview Jason Garrett for offensive coordinator position

Jason Garrett is no longer under contract with the Dallas Cowboys, effective Jan. 14, and that frees him up to seek employment elsewhere without Jerry Jones’ permission following the hiring of Mike McCarthy. Granted, the drawn-out and exceedingly awkward divorce from the Cowboys was his idea, but it cost him valuable time in finding a new role as a head coach — given how quickly teams were moving to fill their vacancies. There was still an opportunity he’d secure a role as someone’s head coach in 2020, however, as evidenced by the New York Giants seeking permission from the Cowboys to speak with Garrett prior […]
