The Detroit Pistons on Wednesday fired coach Monty Williams after one season, absorbing the remaining $65 million on his contract. New Pistons president of basketball operations Trajan Langdon, who was hired a month ago, had been meeting regularly with Williams regarding the franchise’s future, but the decision to dismiss Williams was directed from the ownership level with Tom Gores, sources told ESPN. Veteran safety Tony Jefferson ends retirement, joins Chargers

The Chargers signed safety Tony Jefferson on Friday, the team revealed. Jefferson spent last season as a scouting intern with the Baltimore Ravens after announcing his retirement in May 2023. As an intern, he worked under current Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz, who was then the Ravens’ director of player personnel. Before turning to scouting, Jefferson played for 10 seasons in the NFL.
