Colorado Rockies, Kris Bryant reach seven-year, $182 million deal

Third baseman Kris Bryant and the Colorado Rockies are in agreement on a seven-year, $182 million contract, sources told ESPN’s Jeff Passan on Wednesday. Bryant got off to a hot start in 2021 after a down and injured season in 2020. He cooled off some after being traded from the Chicago Cubs to the San Francisco Giants but still put up good numbers overall, slashing .265/.353/.481 between the two teams. MLB Network first reported Bryant had reached a deal with the Rockies. He was in the very early MVP conversation after hitting .322 in April and .327 in May. Bryant’s 1.078 OPS in April had Cubs fans excited […]

Cody Bellinger, Los Angeles Dodgers agreed to 1-year, $17M deal before lockout

Slugger Cody Bellinger and the Los Angeles Dodgers agreed on a one-year, $17 million contract to avoid arbitration before the Dec. 1 lockout that has shut down Major League Baseball and frozen transactions, sources familiar with the agreement told ESPN. The deal was not revealed after the lockout, as teams are not referencing players by name during the work stoppage that has lasted more than three weeks and will stretch into the new year. Bellinger, 26, is coming off the worst season of his career, hitting .165/.240/.302 with 10 home runs in 95 matches. His postseason performance, however, rekindled memories of his 2019 season, […]

Houston Astros keep ace Justin Verlander with one-year, $25 million deal

The Houston Astros and right-hander Justin Verlander have agreed to a one-year, $25 million contract with a player option for a second season, sources confirmed to ESPN on Wednesday. Verlander won the American League Cy Young Award for Houston in 2019 but made just one appearance during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season due to an elbow troubles. He had surgery to repair an ulnar collateral ligament Sept. 30, 2020, and missed all of the 2021 season, his last before the end of his contract with the Astros. Houston Rockets, John Wall working to find trade deal

The Houston Rockets and John Wall have agreed to work together in an effort to find a trade destination for the veteran point guard, as the franchise is committed to moving forward with Kevin Porter Jr. and Jalen Green as its starting backcourt. The commitment to the 20-year-old Porter and 18-year-old Green leaves Wall, a five-time All-Star who was traded to Houston in the Russell Westbrook deal last year, without a starting role. Wall, 31, is not estimated to play for Houston, as team management and Wall mutually decided that a bench role for him wouldn’t be beneficial to either party, sources said. Chicago Bulls Sign Forward Alize Johnson to Two-Year Deal

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the 25-year-old power forward has signed a two-year $3.6 million deal with Arturas Karnisovas and Co.   In desperate need of depth at power forward after missing out on both Paul Millsap and LaMarcus Aldridge, Johnson entered the picture as a possibility when the Nets waived him late last week.   On a Monday where the Bulls also reportedly added both Stanley Johnson and Matt Thomas, Alize Johnson is easily the most intriguing signing. He might have the fewest professional matches under his belt, but he does provide better size and physicality for this team to slot into […]

Paul Millsap agrees to deal with Nets

Paul Millsap has agreed to a deal with the Brooklyn Nets, his agent, DeAngelo Simmons, told ESPN on Thursday. Millsap becomes the latest former All-Star to join the Nets over the past few seasons, joining Blake Griffin, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden. Millsap’s four All-Star appearances bring Brooklyn’s total up to 38. For the first time since his second year in the league in 2007-08, Millsap failed to average double figures in scoring last campaign. He averaged just 9.0 points and 4.7 rebounds in 56 matches for the Nuggets. Following a trade for Aaron Gordon in late March, Millsap lost the starting job he had held with Denver […]

Free agent Victor Oladipo agreed to a one-year, minimum deal to stay with the Miami Heat, a source told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Wednesday. He will continue to rehab his quadriceps tendon injury through the start of the campaign, a source told ESPN. Oladipo, 29, emerged as an All-NBA player with the Indiana Pacers in a breakout 2017-18 season but has struggled with consistency in his comeback from a devastating knee injury he suffered in 2019. After being obtained by the Heat, Oladipo injured his knee in April and didn’t play the rest of the season after he opted to have season-ending surgery on his […]
