The San Francisco Giants made a historic transaction on Thursday, hiring Alyssa Nakken as the first female coach in MLB history. She will be an assistant coach to manager Gabe Kapler alongside fellow new hire Mark Hallberg. Nakken, 29, joined the Giants in 2014 as a baseball operations intern. She has worked with the Giants in their draft and player development processes and currently directs the team’s health and wellness initiatives, according to the team.
