AJ Hinch, Jeff Luhnow suspension fulfilled in 2020 even if MLB season canceled

Even if the 2020 MLB season is shortened or canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, it reportedly wouldn’t affect the suspension status of former Houston Astros manager AJ Hinch and general manager Jeff Luhnow. Both Hinch and Luhnow were suspended for one year by MLB because of their roles in the Astros’ sign-stealing scandal. And according to ESPN’s Buster Olney, sources have reported that they will get credit for serving their one-year suspensions even if the 2020 season doesn’t happen. Shortly after MLB announced their suspensions, Hinch and Luhnow were fired by the Astros. If Olney’s report is accurate, it […]

Astros focus on Dusty Baker to be new manager

A great deal of the offseason has focused on the Houston Astros and their sign-stealing scandal. It finally came to a head earlier this month when the team fired manager AJ Hinch and general manager Jeff Luhnow. On Tuesday, the Astros chose Dusty Baker as the team’s next manager. During Tuesday’s installment of “Nothing Personal with David Samson,” David Samson weighed in on the decision to hire Baker and why the move was made. “Dusty Baker’s going to be in that dugout and get told what to do by a GM, someone who is his grandson’s age?” Samson asked. “Is that the […]

Mets assessing manager Carlos Beltran after Astros fallout

While commissioner Rob Manfred has cleared Carlos Beltran of possible discipline in the Houston Astros’ sign-stealing scandal of 2017, the New York Mets’ silence about their newly hired manager continues. Sources told ESPN that the Mets are assessing the situation involving Beltran, who is supposed to open spring training with the team next month in what would be his rookie season as a big league manager. Historically, the Mets have been sensitive to criticism in the New York market. In recent days, there have been hard questions raised in the media about Beltran’s past denials about his role in the Astros’ cheating scandal and […]

Astros Yordan Alvarez wins AL Rookie of the year

Yordan Álvarez may have gotten a late start to his rookie season, but the Houston Astros slugger left no doubt that he belongs at the head of his class. Álvarez, a 21-year-old designated hitter with game-changing power, was named the AL Rookie of the Year on Monday by a unanimous vote of the Baseball Writers Association of America. Baltimore Orioles pitcher John Means ended second in the voting. Tampa Bay Rays infielder Brandon Lowe was third. The American League did not feature a particularly strong crop of rookies beyond Álvarez. He established his superiority almost instantly upon his call up on […]

Nationals defeat Astros again to take a 2-0 lead of World Series

The tension mounted in Minute Maid Park with each pitch to the pinch-hitting rookie with two aboard in the sixth inning of a tied Game 2 on Wednesday night.  Kyle Tucker fought off Stephen Strasburg’s most onerous offerings and slowly worked the count full, with the Astros faithful waving their orange towels in anticipation of a magic moment. Then the kid watched a high curveball dive into the upper reaches of the strike zone for the inning-ending strike three. Instants later, a leadoff rocket off the bat of Kurt Suzuki just one pitch into the seventh sparked the ruthless six-run frame that included a rare intentional walk and […]

Nationals against Astros for World Series 2019

The 2019 World Series is set: The Houston Astros will face the Washington Nationals for the Commissioner’s Trophy to close out the postseason. Both teams have highly touted starting pitching, but they took different October roads to reach the Fall Classic. Washington had to come from behind to win the Wild Card Game over the Brewers on Oct. 1. The Nationals then won the final two games of the NLDS to upset the top-seeded Dodgers before sweeping the NL Central-winning Cardinals to get the World Series. It was a more straightforward road for the Astros. Houston had baseball’s best record in the regular season, going 107-55. The Astros won the […]

Angels outlast Astros preventing Houston clinch

The Los Angeles Angels made nine pitching changes, including seven in a four-inning span. Those pitchers grinded and fought and managed to keep the mighty Astros scoreless when they loaded the bases three times in the final five innings. The Angels refused to play like a team with nothing to play for, and that’s why Houston’s celebration of the AL’s best record has to wait at least another day. ”Everybody did a fantastic job,” he added. ”We’re looking to finish strong. We’ve got to look forward for next year, so everybody has got to do their job and we’ve got to finish […]
