Thousand Words pulls upset to win Shared Belief at Del Mar

Thousand Words upset 1-5 favorite Honor A. P. by three-quarters of a length in the $100,000 Shared Belief Stakes at Del Mar last Saturday, giving trainer Bob Baffert another candidate for next month’s Kentucky Derby. Ridden by Abel Cedillo, Thousand Words ran 1 1/16 miles in 1 minute, 43.85 seconds and paid $20.40 and $3.40 at 9-1 odds. The colt earned 50 qualifying points for the Derby, which was postponed until Labor Day weekend due to the coronavirus pandemic. Ny Traffic takes advantage of extended Kentucky Derby trail

Ny Traffic has taken full advantage of the extended Road to the 2020 Kentucky Derby, even without winning a Derby prep. The Cross Traffic colt ended a hard-charging second Saturday in the Grade 1 Haskell Stakes. Down 2 1/2 lengths to winner Authentic coming into the Monmouth Park stretch, he surged late and finished second by a nose. Kentucky Derby postponed until September

The 146th running of the Kentucky Derby is being reprogrammed for the first Saturday in September, Churchill Downs officials confirm. The Kentucky Derby, which was originally scheduled for May 2, will be moved to Saturday, Sept. 5 in response to COVID-19. The Kentucky Oaks will be on Sept. 4.
