Warriors president-general manager Bob Myers steps down

Golden State’s Bob Myers, a two-time executive of the year and architect of four NBA championships with the Warriors, is stepping down as the franchise’s president and general manager. “It’s just time,” Myers told ESPN. Myers, whose contract expires in late June, declined ownership offers on a new deal that would’ve paid him among the league’s top-earning executives, he stated. Myers described the decision-making process that led him to leave the franchise after 12 years as including several factors beyond money. Myers, 48, said he’s unsure of his future professional pathway, but should he someday decide to return to the […]

Lakers outshined by Nuggets again in clutch, face 3-0 deficit

For the third time in as many games in the Western Conference finals, the outcome was up for grabs in the fourth quarter, and the Los Angeles Lakers couldn’t complete the task. Saturday’s 119-108 loss to the Denver Nuggets to fall behind 3-0 in the series might have contained different details than L.A.’s two defeats to start the series, but the general theme was the same: The West’s No. 1 seed did more when it mattered most. Now one loss away from their season being over, the Lakers, who started the season 2-10 and completely overhauled the roster just before the All-Star break, are […]

Nikola Jokic’s dominant triple-double leads Nuggets over Lakers

Nikola Jokic claimed he did not have a strategy in mind to combat Anthony Davis. But it did not take long in Tuesday night’s Game 1 for the Los Angeles Lakers to see Jokic’s blueprint. The Denver Nuggets’ superstar came out extremely aggressive, reintroducing himself to LeBron James and Davis on the Western Conference finals stage, but this time as a two-time MVP at the top of his game. Jokic compiled his third consecutive triple-double this postseason by the third quarter, and concluded with 34 points, 21 rebounds, 14 assists and two blocks to help the Nuggets take a 132-126 win at Ball Arena. “He makes it […]

Pau Gasol becomes 12th Lakers player to have jersey retired

Pau Gasol, the perfect complementary player to Kobe Bryant, was paid the best compliment possible by his former team: The Lakers retired his jersey. “I mean life goes by pretty fast, right? In the blink of an eye, you can be a kid playing basketball in your school with your buddies, then all of a sudden, you’re realizing your dream,” Gasol said before the Lakers’ 112-103 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night. “But tonight, it really exceeds any dream or expectation that I’ve had because it means so much. And obviously with Kobe up there, it just adds something meaningful and powerful, and sad […]

LeBron James to monitor right foot after injury against Mavs

LeBron James sustained a right foot injury late in the third quarter in Sunday’s 111-108 win versus the Dallas Mavericks but was able to finish out the game and help the Los Angeles Lakers pull off the biggest comeback victory in the NBA this season. “It’s been better,” James stated when asked about his foot afterward. “That’s for sure. But I definitely wasn’t going to go to the locker room and not finish the game out tonight. Just understood the importance of the game, and then with the momentum that we had, I felt like we could still win after being down. “We’ll monitor it the next […]

Bulls’ Patrick Beverley wants to knock Lakers out of playoffs

New Bulls guard Patrick Beverley already has a pair of games circled on his calendar for his new team — and both are versus the Los Angeles Lakers, his former squad. While discussing his addition to the Bulls during “The Pat Bev Podcast” on Tuesday, Beverley made note that Chicago still has two games left against the Lakers, for whom he started 45 games this season. Those games could be critical in the push for the playoffs, and Beverley made his intentions for those matchups clear. “Knock them out the playoffs,” Beverley said on his podcast. The Lakers traded Beverley to the Orlando Magic ahead of the Feb. 9 trade deadline, […]

Stephen Curry: Return to play for Warriors fluid amid recovery

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry stated Monday that there is no target date for him to return from his left lower leg injury that has held him out since Feb. 4. The team plans to reevaluate Curry after the All-Star break, but Curry said he will miss the Warriors’ first game out of the break versus the Los Angeles Lakers on Feb. 23, and likely a few more after that. Curry suffered partial tears to his superior tibiofibular ligaments and interosseous membrane as well as a contusion to his left lower leg when his knee collided with Dallas Mavericks point guard McKinley Wright IV’s earlier this month. James has triple-double, leads Lakers past Knicks in OT

LeBron James will soon be the NBA’s top scorer, though that was never his focus. He’s also one of the game’s leading passers, and combining the two — possibly better than anyone ever — is what really makes him proud. “I didn’t get to this point in my career by thinking about records or how many points I have, whatever the case might be,” James said. “I just play the game the right way. I approach the game every night only trying to be a triple threat by scoring, rebounding, assisting, defending, and may the chips fall where they may.” James […]

Lakers send Kendrick Nunn, second-round picks to Wizards for Rui Hachimura

The Los Angeles Lakers get Washington Wizards forward Rui Hachimura for Kendrick Nunn and three second-round picks, the team revealed on Monday. The deal involves a 2023 second-round pick via Chicago, the Lakers’ own in 2029 and the less favorable of the Wizards’ and Lakers’ 2028 second-round picks, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Hachimura, 24, had grown unhappy without a rookie contract extension in the preseason and became less of a priority with the emergence of Kyle Kuzma in the Wizards’ frontcourt. “I just want to be somewhere that wants me as a basketball player,” Hachimura told reporters last week. “And I want to be somewhere that likes my […]

Kings beat Lakers 116-111 for 5th straight victory

Sacramento coach Mike Brown has been lauding his team’s depth all season. On Wednesday night the Kings showed it with one of their top players sidelined. Despite Domantas Sabonis being out with an illness, the Kings prolonged their winning streak to five with a 116-111 triumph behind 32 points from De’Aaron Fox. “It was a good win by our guys. We’ve been saying all year we feel like we are a deep team,” Brown said. “Having that next man up mentality has been huge for us. “Domantas is a huge part of our offense. And to have Fox step up the way […]
