Shohei Ohtani says he feels like a rookie again with Dodgers

Roughly 70 media members formed a half-circle around a small backdrop at the Los Angeles Dodgers’ facility late Friday morning, waiting for Shohei Ohtani to conduct his first media session. About a dozen of them had shown up hours earlier, before the sun had fully risen, just to catch a glimpse of him driving into the players’ parking lot. Ohtani’s gravitas has been glaringly obvious through the first two days of spring training, but he’s merely trying to conduct himself as the new guy. After six years with the crosstown rival Los Angeles Angels, he sees himself as a “rookie” all over again. “I […]

Angels, OF Aaron Hicks agree to deal; Yankees on hook for $19M

The Los Angeles Angels agreed to terms on a one-year contract with veteran outfielder Aaron Hicks on Monday, adding him to an outfield mix that involves Mike Trout, Taylor Ward, Mickey Moniak and Jo Adell. Hicks is still under the seven-year, $70 million contract he initially signed with the New York Yankees, which extends through the 2025 season. The deal pays Hicks $9.5 million in 2024 and $9.5 million in 2025 and includes a $1 million buyout for a club option in 2026. The Yankees are still responsible for all of it minus the major league minimum of $740,000 the Angels will pay him in 2024. Looking for the […]

Clippers’ Ivica Zubac (right calf) out at least four weeks

Zubac is out with a strained right calf and will be re-evaluated in four weeks, the Clippers revealed before Tuesday night’s home game versus the Oklahoma City Thunder. He was a late scratch moments before tipoff of the Clippers’ 109-105 loss at Minnesota on Sunday. Looking for the best online betting site and Live betting? Visit Heritage Sports Head coach Ty Lue stated Mason Plumlee will start in Zubac’s place.  Daniel Theis started Sunday against the Timberwolves. “We just got to adjust,” Lue said. “I think (with) Mase […]

Teoscar Hernández, Dodgers reach 1-year, $23.5M deal

Outfielder Teoscar Hernández and the Los Angeles Dodgers agreed on a one-year, $23.5 million contract, sources told ESPN on Sunday, adding another All-Star bat to the lineup of a team that’s already the World Series favorite. Hernández, 31, entered an offseason with few impact veteran bats as among the best. But with a crowded outfield market and others available on the trade market, he opted for a big-money, one-year deal and the chance to join Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Tyler Glasnow as part of the supercharged Dodgers. The deal, which is pending a physical, includes deferrals, though not nearly to the level of Ohtani putting off $680 million […]

Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s opt-outs tied to elbow health

Yoshinobu Yamamoto will have two chances to opt out of his record $325 million, 12-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, although the timing is tied to his pitching elbow’s health. If Yamamoto has Tommy John surgery or is on the injured list for a right elbow injury for 134 consecutive service days from 2024-29, he would have the right to opt out after the 2031 and 2033 World Series, according to terms of the deal obtained by The Associated Press on Tuesday. If he avoids Tommy John surgery and doesn’t miss that much time with an elbow issue during that […]

RHP Lucas Giolito, Red Sox reach 2-year

Right-hander Lucas Giolito and the Boston Red Sox are in agreement on a two-year, $38.5 million contract, sources told ESPN, locking up the innings-eating veteran as the starting pitching market starts to move. The deal includes an opt-out after the first season and includes innings-based performance bonuses that can bring the total value to $40.5 million. Giolito’s deal with Boston gives him an $18 million salary in 2024 and a $1 million buyout if he opts out. If not, his salary for 2025 is $19 million. There is a conditional option for 2026 — a $14 million club option if he throws under 140 […]

LeBron James scores 40 as Lakers end skid with ‘big win’

With the Lakers’ once 26-point lead cut to 10 in the waning minutes Saturday, LeBron James scored 11 consecutive points for Los Angeles. The spurt boosted his total to a season-best 40 points and assured the Lakers one of their best wins of the season, 129-120 versus the Oklahoma City Thunder. Coming into the night on a four-game losing streak and tweaking the starting lineup before tipoff — looking like a shell of the team that went 7-0 en route to the in-season tournament championship in the past couple of weeks — the Lakers made good on the “must win” directive Anthony Davis labeled the game earlier in […]

Rays agree to trade Tyler Glasnow to Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Tampa Bay Rays are in agreement on a trade to send frontline starter Tyler Glasnow to the Dodgers, sources familiar with the deal told ESPN on Thursday. The deal is contingent on Glasnow signing a contract extension with Los Angeles, which the parties are hopeful will happen by Friday, according to sources. The window for the extension opened Thursday morning, sources said, and if completed, the Dodgers will get Glasnow and outfielder Manuel Margot and send right-handed starter Ryan Pepiot and outfield prospect Jonny Deluca to the Rays. One of the prized starting pitchers on the trade market, Glasnow is among the game’s most dominant — and […]

Braves acquire Fletcher, Stassi from Angels in money-juggling move

The Atlanta Braves obtained infielder David Fletcher and catcher Max Stassi from the Los Angeles Angels for first baseman Evan White and left-handed reliever Tyler Thomas on Friday, the team revealed, continuing a money-juggling effort in the wake of a previous trade. At the starting of the winter meetings, Atlanta dealt for outfielder Jarred Kelenic and a pair of higher-paid players: White and pitcher Marco Gonzales. During the meetings, the Braves flipped Gonzales and his $12 million salary to Pittsburgh along with cash in exchange for a player to be named later. White, who is owed $17 million for the remaining two guaranteed seasons and the buyout on his contract, was the latest to move […]

Pacers advance over Bucks to championship game of tournament

As Tyrese Haliburton watched his step-back 3-pointer fall through the net, giving the Indiana Pacers what would become an insurmountable lead over the Milwaukee Bucks inside the final minute of the Eastern Conference semifinal in the NBA’s in-season tournament, he turned and stared at his wrist. The implication was obvious: The closing moments of the game, which usually are reserved for “Dame Time” when Damian Lillard is involved, had become Haliburton’s time to shine this Thursday at T-Mobile Arena. There were still 48 seconds on the clock as Haliburton celebrated, but they were a mere formality. By the time they ticked off, Haliburton — who finished with 27 […]
