Stephen Curry: Return to play for Warriors fluid amid recovery

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry stated Monday that there is no target date for him to return from his left lower leg injury that has held him out since Feb. 4. The team plans to reevaluate Curry after the All-Star break, but Curry said he will miss the Warriors’ first game out of the break versus the Los Angeles Lakers on Feb. 23, and likely a few more after that. Curry suffered partial tears to his superior tibiofibular ligaments and interosseous membrane as well as a contusion to his left lower leg when his knee collided with Dallas Mavericks point guard McKinley Wright IV’s earlier this month. Dodgers, vet OF David Peralta agree to 1-year deal

The Los Angeles Dodgers and veteran outfielder David Peralta have agreed to terms on a one-year, $6.5 million contract, sources told ESPN on Friday. The deal, which is pending the completion of a physical examination, brings incentives that could increase the value to as much as $8 million. Peralta, 35, gives the Dodgers an experienced left-handed hitter who can split time with the right-handed-hitting Chris Taylor and Trayce Thompson in left and center field. Peralta has some experience in center field but has spent the vast majority of his nine-year career in left. Looking for the best online betting site and Live betting? Visit Heritage Sports! Lakers send Kendrick Nunn, second-round picks to Wizards for Rui Hachimura

The Los Angeles Lakers get Washington Wizards forward Rui Hachimura for Kendrick Nunn and three second-round picks, the team revealed on Monday. The deal involves a 2023 second-round pick via Chicago, the Lakers’ own in 2029 and the less favorable of the Wizards’ and Lakers’ 2028 second-round picks, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Hachimura, 24, had grown unhappy without a rookie contract extension in the preseason and became less of a priority with the emergence of Kyle Kuzma in the Wizards’ frontcourt. “I just want to be somewhere that wants me as a basketball player,” Hachimura told reporters last week. “And I want to be somewhere that likes my […]

Kings beat Lakers 116-111 for 5th straight victory

Sacramento coach Mike Brown has been lauding his team’s depth all season. On Wednesday night the Kings showed it with one of their top players sidelined. Despite Domantas Sabonis being out with an illness, the Kings prolonged their winning streak to five with a 116-111 triumph behind 32 points from De’Aaron Fox. “It was a good win by our guys. We’ve been saying all year we feel like we are a deep team,” Brown said. “Having that next man up mentality has been huge for us. “Domantas is a huge part of our offense. And to have Fox step up the way […]

Trevor Bauer becomes free agent after clearing waivers

Trevor Bauer became a free agent Friday when he went unclaimed on waivers, leaving the Los Angeles Dodgers accountable for about $22.5 million owed to the former Cy Young Award winner whose unprecedented 324-game suspension over sexual misconduct allegations was reduced by an arbitrator. Los Angeles designated Bauer for assignment on Jan. 6, the last day to restore him to the roster, after arbitrator Martin Scheinman cut the suspension imposed by MLB commissioner Rob Manfred from 324 to 194 games. The Dodgers placed Bauer on waivers Thursday. Any team could sign the 2020 NL Cy Young Award winner for the major league minimum of $720,000. That would […]

Nearing age 38, LeBron James says top priority is ‘to win’

Back in the arena where he played arguably the best basketball of his career, LeBron James was asked to look to the future rather than back into the past and share how much longer he plans to play in the NBA. “I don’t have a number,” James stated Wednesday after the Los Angeles Lakers’ 112-98 loss to his former team, the Miami Heat, when asked how many more seasons he has left. “I know as long as my mind stays in it, I can play at this level for a minute. Now, that’s up to my mind. My body is going to be OK because if […]

Justin Turner agrees to 2-year deal with Red Sox

Third baseman Justin Turner and the Boston Red Sox are in agreement on a two-year contract worth just shy of $22 million that includes an opt-out after the first season, sources told ESPN on Sunday. Turner spent the past nine years with the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he blossomed into one of the National League’s most productive and consistent hitters. Now 38, he’ll head to Boston, which already has perennial MVP candidate Rafael Devers at third base, and likely settle into a first-base or designated hitter role, perhaps filling the slot of J.D. Martinez, who agreed to a deal Saturday with the Dodgers. While Turner’s power receded this […]

Kawhi Leonard leads Clippers over Celtics in best game since injury

Kawhi Leonard looked and played the best he has since tearing his right ACL, and the LA Clippers enjoyed their best victory of the season. Leonard made 10 of 12 shots, including two 3-pointers, and had 25 points, nine rebounds and six assists to lead the Clippers to a resounding 113-93 triumph over the Boston Celtics on Monday night at Crypto.com Arena. Even though this was easily Leonard’s best game since tearing his right ACL in Game 4 of the Clippers’ second-round playoff series against the Utah Jazz on June 14, 2021, the former two-time Finals MVP said he’s more concerned with how well he plays in […]

Dodgers sign OF Jason Heyward to a minor league contract

Jason Heyward, the former All-Star and five-time Gold Glove Award winner who has struggled offensively for most of the last six years, has signed a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team revealed Thursday. The agreement includes an invitation to spring training. Heyward, still only 33, was a dynamic defender, a solid baserunner and a dangerous — albeit inconsistent — power hitter in his first six seasons, batting .268/.353/.431 with 276 extra-base hits with the Atlanta Braves and the St. Louis Cardinals. Toronto Blue Jays hire Don Mattingly as bench coach

Don Mattingly was expecting to spend a summer at home with his family. A call from the Toronto Blue Jays convinced him to get back into baseball. Mattingly, who left his job as Miami Marlins manager at the end of last season, is joining Toronto’s staff as bench coach to manager John Schneider, the team revealed Wednesday. Mattingly stated he’d been contacted by multiple clubs with offers for 2023, but nothing interested him until Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins called to chat. “Just the first conversation, it felt great, honestly,” Mattingly said on a video call Wednesday. “It piqued my interest right away.” […]
