Philadelphia Phillies promote Sam Fuld to GM

Sam Fuld went from interviewing to become Boston’s manager to being named general manager of the Philadelphia Phillies. Fuld was promoted to GM on Tuesday, filling the role previously held by Matt Klentak. The team also promoted Jorge Velandia to assistant general manager and Terry Ryan to special assistant to the general manager. Dave Dombrowski was hired to run baseball operations two weeks ago. Buster Posey to remain San Francisco Giants’ primary catcher this season

Buster Posey will stay as the San Francisco Giants’ “primary catcher” in 2021 and will get “the lion’s share of the reps” behind the plate despite the presence of top prospect Joey Bart, second-year manager Gabe Kapler said during his session with the media Tuesday. Posey, a six-time All-Star who is owed $21.4 million in what could be the final year of his contract, sat out 2020 amid concerns about the coronavirus pandemic after he and his wife adopted twin girls who were born prematurely. Bart, ESPN’s seventh-ranked prospect in March, was called up to temporarily replace Posey and struggled through a .233/.288/.320 […]

In January 2020, the sides parted ways following the league’s investigation into the Houston Astros’ sign-stealing scheme. At the time of his firing, the league was also investigating sign-stealing allegations against the Red Sox that ultimately were deemed far more minor. Looking for the […]

Indians manager Terry Francona dealing with blood clotting issue

The Cleveland Indians may be without manager Terry Francona even longer than anticipated. Francona has already missed 15 matches with a gastrointestinal issue, and Chris Antonetti, the team’s president of baseball operations, disclosed Tuesday that the 61-year-old manager has also been dealing with blood clotting issues. Antonetti said doctors at the Cleveland Clinic inserted a stent last week to help Francona’s blood flow “around what was a clogged filter in his veins.” Francona is currently recovering in his downtown apartment and Antonetti said there is no timetable on when he’ll back. The Indians had ruled him out for at least this three-game […]

Astros interview Dusty Baker for managerial opening

Former Washington Nationals manager Dusty Baker is in Houston to interview for the Astros’ managerial job opening. Baker told the Houston Chronicle on Thursday that he had not yet been contacted regarding the Astros’ opening. But sometime over the weekend, the team added him to their list. It was confirmed when he landed in Houston on Sunday night and spoke to reporters. “They got a good team,” said Baker, 70. “They’ve always had a good team and I’ve enjoyed watching them to play and it would be a privilege and an honor to be the manager of this team.” The Astros are searching for a manager with a […]
