Yankees slugger Aaron Judge has torn ligament in toe

New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge said Saturday he has a torn ligament in his right big toe and is experiencing pain when he walks. When the Yankees placed Judge on the injured list June 6, the team said he was dealing with a contusion and a sprained ligament in his right big toe. There remains no timetable for the return of the reigning American League MVP. “I’ve got to knock out the rehab stuff,” Judge said. “I’ve had different injuries over the years where it’s going to take a while. It’s not going to be perfect here in a couple of weeks. […]

Golden Knights blast Panthers 9-3 in Game 5 to capture first Stanley Cup title

Golden Knights games have always been as flashy as any show on the Las Vegas Strip, the sword-fighting mascot taking the ice before what seems like a legion of players marching out through the mirrored entrance into the roar of the crowd. If this team was ever going to attain the Stanley Cup, it was going to do it with Vegas flash. The Knights delivered just that from dazzling passes to Mark Stone’s hat trick to all-out goal celebrations, capturing the young organization’s first title with a 9-3 romp over the beaten up and exhausted Florida Panthers on Tuesday night. Coach Bruce Cassidy, […]

Nuggets take home 1st NBA title in rugged 94-89 win over Heat

Confetti flying in Denver. The Nuggets sharing hugs while passing around the NBA championship trophy. Those scenes that, for almost a half-century, seemed impossible, then more recently started feeling inevitable, finally turned into reality Monday night. The Nuggets outlasted the Miami Heat 94-89 in an ugly, frantic Game 5 that did nothing to derail Nikola Jokic, who bailed out his teammates with 28 points and 16 rebounds on a night when nothing else seemed to work. Jokic became the first player in history to lead the league in points (600), rebounds (269) and assists (190) in a single postseason. Not surprisingly, he acquired […]

Nikola Jokic’s dominant triple-double leads Nuggets over Lakers

Nikola Jokic claimed he did not have a strategy in mind to combat Anthony Davis. But it did not take long in Tuesday night’s Game 1 for the Los Angeles Lakers to see Jokic’s blueprint. The Denver Nuggets’ superstar came out extremely aggressive, reintroducing himself to LeBron James and Davis on the Western Conference finals stage, but this time as a two-time MVP at the top of his game. Jokic compiled his third consecutive triple-double this postseason by the third quarter, and concluded with 34 points, 21 rebounds, 14 assists and two blocks to help the Nuggets take a 132-126 win at Ball Arena. “He makes it […]

Astros’ Jose Altuve resumes baseball activities, return not set

Jose Altuve restarted some baseball activities this week, but there still isn’t a timetable for when Houston’s star second baseman will return to the team. Altuve fractured his right thumb in the World Baseball Classic and had surgery to repair the injury March 22. After his surgery, Astros general manager Dana Brown stated he would be out at least eight weeks. It has been six weeks so far, and while Altuve was cleared to return to baseball activities this week — including throwing, running and fielding — he hasn’t been cleared to swing. “I think right now it’s hard to tell,” […]

Bryce Harper sets All-Star break as ballpark for return

Philadelphia Phillies slugger Bryce Harper has joined his teammates at spring training and hasn’t ruled out being back by the All-Star break following Tommy John surgery. “Things can change either way,” the two-time National League MVP said Thursday. “I could be after, I could be before. But as right now, that’s the date we kind of solidified. We’re not going to rush. We’re going to be smart about it.” Dressed in red Phillies shorts with pinstripes and a white workout shirt, Harper sat on top of a picnic table outside the clubhouse. “Just excited to be back out here, some sunshine and some […]

76ers rally to win 133-130, snap Bucks’ 16-game streak

Nothing could faze the Philadelphia 76ers. Not the loss of two starters. Not an 18-point deficit late in the third quarter. Not even the fact they were facing the NBA’s hottest team on the road. Joel Embiid made a go-ahead 3-pointer with 41.4 seconds left and the 76ers rallied to defeat Milwaukee 133-130 on Saturday night, snapping the Bucks’ 16-game winning streak. “You find something that works and you try to stick with it,” said James Harden, who had 38 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds. “We found something late, in that fourth quarter, and we just stuck with it. We got some […]
