Belmont Stakes could be moved to Saratoga Race Course for 2024, ’25

The Belmont Stakes could be moved to Saratoga Race Course in upstate New York as soon as next year, an earlier-than-anticipated move for the third leg of horse racing’s Triple Crown. The New York Racing Association’s hope is to hold the Belmont at historic Saratoga in 2024 and 2025. The move, which had already been committed to for 2025 because of a $455 million renovation of Belmont Park, is subject to the approval of an oversight board and the New York State Gaming Commission. Rays brush off ‘a last-place team,’ top Yanks after benches clear

Brandon Lowe homered and drove in four runs as the American League wild-card-leading Tampa Bay Rays defeated the New York Yankees 7-4 in a contentious matchup on Sunday and kept the road team winless in the series since June. Benches and bullpens emptied twice in the eighth inning after one of five hit batters, but no punches were thrown, and the Yankees lost their eighth consecutive series rubber game. “Looking at it in a different view, it’s a last-place team,” Lowe said. “We don’t need to worry about it. We need to focus up on what we need to do down the stretch. If they lose […]

Knicks sue former employee, Raptors, cite disclosure of ‘proprietary information’

The New York Knicks on Monday sued the Toronto Raptors, members of the Raptors organization and a former Knicks employee whom they alleged “illegally procured and then disclosed proprietary information” to their Atlantic Division rival. According to a copy of the lawsuit, which was filed in the U.S. District Court in Manhattan and was obtained by ESPN, the Knicks state that Ikechukwu Azotam, who worked for the Knicks from 2020 to 2023, sent the Raptors thousands of confidential files — including play frequency reports, a prep book for the 2022-23 season, video scouting files, opposition research and more — after the team started […]

Yankees lose 8 in row for first time since 1995 as Justin Turner leads Red Sox to 6-5 win

An overturned call at the plate in the eighth inning led to the latest loss in what’s become the New York Yankees’ worst season in decades. The Yankees extended a losing streak to eight for the first time in 28 years, allowing Justin Turner’s ninth-inning go-ahead double in a 6-5 defeat to the Boston Red Sox on Sunday. “We got to be unbelievable the rest of the way,” manager Aaron Boone stated after the Yankees dropped to 60-64 and fell nine games behind Seattle for the AL’s last wild card spot. New York appeared to break a 5-5 tie in the eighth when Isiah […]

Andy Murray (abdominal strain) withdraws from Cincinnati Open

Andy Murray pulled out of the Cincinnati Open late Monday with an abdominal strain. The 36-year-old keeps recovering from the injury as he prepares to compete in the US Open that starts later this month in New York. Cincinnati is among some of the tournaments that players view as tune-ups for the Open. Murray withdrew from last week’s Canadian Open before his round-of-16 clash with eventual champion Jannik Sinner due to the strain. He first felt the injury after spending nearly five hours on court in triumphs over Lorenzo Sonego and Max Purcell. Looking for the best online betting site and Live betting? Visit Heritage Sports! Max Scherzer settles in, strikes out 9 to win Rangers debut

Three-time Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer settled down after a shaky start to win his debut for the American League West-leading Texas Rangers, striking out nine over six innings and getting some help from his new teammates as they defeated the Chicago White Sox 5-3 on Thursday. Four of Chicago’s first five batters reached base in a three-run first inning when Scherzer (10-4) threw 37 pitches. The White Sox then had three singles in the second, though Scherzer benefitted from a double-play grounder and an inning-ending strikeout to prevent any more runs. Scherzer, acquired from the New York Mets in a trade over the weekend and […]

Yankees pitcher Domingo Germán throws 1st perfect game since 2012. It’s the 24th in MLB history

Since arriving in the big leagues six years ago, Domingo Germán has been anything but perfect. Until now. The New York Yankees right-hander pitched the 24th perfect game in major league history Wednesday night, retiring every Oakland batter in an 11-0 triumph over the Athletics. It was the first perfect game since Seattle Mariners ace Félix Hernández threw one versus the Tampa Bay Rays on Aug. 15, 2012. There were three that season — but none since until Germán finished off the first no-hitter in the majors this year. He joined Don Larsen (1956), David Wells (1998) and David Cone (1999) as Yankees to pitch perfect […]

New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge said Saturday he has a torn ligament in his right big toe and is experiencing pain when he walks. When the Yankees placed Judge on the injured list June 6, the team said he was dealing with a contusion and a sprained ligament in his right big toe. There remains no timetable for the return of the reigning American League MVP. “I’ve got to knock out the rehab stuff,” Judge said. “I’ve had different injuries over the years where it’s going to take a while. It’s not going to be perfect here in a couple of weeks. […]

Red Sox win 4-1, 6-2 to sweep Yankees in doubleheader and series

It’s too bad baseball went away from the unbalanced schedules, because the Boston Red Sox could really use a bunch more games versus the New York Yankees. The Red Sox defeated their AL East archrivals 4-1 on Sunday night, completing a doubleheader and series sweep that brought them just two games behind their longtime nemeses in the division. Boston won the series opener 15-5, and then took Sunday’s day game 6-2 in a makeup of Saturday’s rainout. “We like playing them. They like playing against us,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said. “It’s fun playing against them. Regardless of where we are in […]
