Kawhi Leonard signs 3-year, $153M extension with Clippers

Kawhi Leonard signed a three-year, $153 million contract extension to stay with the LA Clippers, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The Clippers announced the deal Wednesday but did not disclose terms. Sources told Wojnarowski that the deal will pay Leonard $52 million in the first year and approximately $50 million per season over the next two years. The extension does not include a player option, according to Wojnarowski, but does include a 15 percent trade kicker. “It just made sense from both sides,” Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank said before Wednesday’s game against the Raptors. “We both wanted the same […]

Clippers star George exits game with right knee soreness

After burying five 3-pointers and scoring 21 points in the first half, Paul George was held out of the second half of the LA Clippers’ 119-97 victory over the San Antonio Spurs because of right knee soreness. Clippers coach Ty Lue stated George’s injury did not appear to be serious. George felt good enough to remain on the bench in the second half and even took part in tossing T-shirts to the crowd during a timeout. George did not talk to reporters after the game, but Lue said the guard was feeling fine afterward. “He’s doing OK,” Lue said. “I haven’t seen what they […]

Paul George scores 40 as Clippers edge Kings 111-109

Paul George scored 40 points to help the Los Angeles Clippers hold off the Sacramento Kings 111-109 on Saturday night. It was the 20th time that George scored 40 points, including playoffs, and his fifth as a member of the Clippers. “I know I’m able to be the No. 1 option,” George said. “I’m very aware and very confident in my abilities.” De’Aaron Fox scored with 41.4 seconds left to cap a 15-6 Sacramento run, one that pulled the Kings from 12 points down to 109-106. George missed a 3-pointer on the next Clippers’ possession, but Nicolas Batum grabbed the offensive rebound and Norman Powell knocked down two […]

Paul George ‘totally fine’ being Clippers’ No. 2 behind Kawhi Leonard

Paul George set aside any ego and made it clear that Kawhi Leonard is the LA Clippers’ No. 1 option and that he is the second star in the All-Star duo’s pecking order. As they enter their fourth season together with championship expectations, George was asked if there are any past championship wing tandems that he and Leonard can use as a potential blueprint. “Yeah, look at the [Miami Heat] wing-wing DWade [Dwyane Wade] and LeBron [James],” George stated Sunday following the Clippers’ 119-117 preseason loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves at Crypto.com Arena. “I think it just comes down to — listen, Kawhi is the No. 1. And I […]

Norman Powell leads Clippers to win in return from injury, says LA can be ‘really dangerous’ in postseason

After scoring a game-high 24 points in his first outing alongside Paul George, Norman Powell thinks the LA Clippers can be a potential headache for adversaries if they get out of the play-in next week. Powell returned Wednesday after missing nearly two months because of a fractured bone in his left foot and hit his first six shots to help the Clippers build a 39-point lead before holding on for a 113-109 victory over the Phoenix Suns at Crypto.com Arena. His return came just three matches before the Clippers are set to play in next week’s play-in as the eighth-placed team in the West. “I think we can be […]

Paul George sets tone with bounce-back effort as LA Clippers rout Utah Jazz in needed Game 3 win

Paul George used a cross-over dribble to move to his left before drilling a rainbow step-back 3-pointer over Royce O’Neale and letting out a scream. After hearing Jazz fans chant “overrated” at him for two games in Utah, an aggressive George had his best game of the playoffs, scoring 20 of his 31 points in the first half to set a much-needed tone for the LA Clippers on Saturday night. Kawhi Leonard then scored 24 of his 34 points in the second half to help the Clippers defeat the Utah Jazz, 132-106, and get their first victory of this Western Conference semifinal series. George’s first 30-point game since […]

Kyrie Irving scored a season-high 39 points, counting eight straight in the fourth-quarter run that sent Brooklyn into the lead for good, and the Nets beat the Los Angeles Clippers 124-120 on Tuesday night. Kevin Durant added 28 points, James Harden had 23 points, 14 assists and 11 rebounds, and the three stars scored all the points in the decisive 13-0 spurt. The Nets held on from there to snap the Clippers’ three-game winning streak. George could make Clippers debut at New Orleans

Paul George could make his Clippers debut when L.A. visits New Orleans on Thursday. He hasn’t played this season because of surgery on both shoulders that took place before he was traded to the Clippers in the summer. Los Angeles also has been limiting fellow newcomer Kawhi Leonard’s action on back-to-backs for load management. Generally he has sat out the first game of back-to-backs, but he started and played 41 minutes in a 102-93 loss at Houston on Wednesday night, leaving his status for Thursday unclear. Whether or not George and Leonard take the court together for the first time Thursday, fans […]

Clippers Paul George set for first full-contact practice since shoulder surgeries

In the months heading into the 2019-20 season, the belief was that All-Star forward Paul George would miss some time to begin the year. George has been on a steady path towards recovery from dual shoulder surgery that he underwent over the offseason. However, the L.A. Clippers have honed in on a return date to have George back in the mix. Before the Clippers made the big-splash moves to land both Kawhi Leonard and George over the summer back in July, the latter had gone through offseason surgery on both shoulders. Injuries hampered the 29-year-old down the stretch of the season and into the playoffs that impacted his […]
