Shohei Ohtani, Cody Bellinger headline MLB free agent market

Shohei Ohtani, Cody Bellinger, Jordan Montgomery, Blake Snell and Aaron Nola were among the 130 players who became free agents Thursday as baseball’s business season started the day following the Texas Rangers’ first World Series title. Max Muncy, Joe Jiménez and Colin Rea gave up a chance to become free agents and agreed to new contracts with their teams. The free agent market also includes Sonny Gray, Josh Hader, Matt Chapman, Jorge Soler and J.D. Martinez. Minnesota prevented outfielder Max Kepler and infielder Jorge Polanco from leaving, exercising a $10 million option on Kepler and $10.5 million option on Polanco. Each would have been owed a $1 million buyout had the option been declined. Looking for the best online betting site and Live […]

Team USA routs Greece to reach second round of FIBA World Cup

When coach Steve Kerr came to practice Sunday and saw some of his Team USA players were a little frustrated after a 27-point victory, he smiled. The first FIBA World Cup lesson had landed. That mood carried into Monday night, when the U.S. played a more focused, cleaner and overall better match in beating Greece 109-81 to move to 2-0 in the event. The win assures the U.S. will move on to the second round after its last pool play game Wednesday versus Jordan. “Really good effort from our guys,” Kerr said. “Our thought process every game is to wear […]

Carlos Alcaraz, Iga Swiatek get No. 1 seeds for Wimbledon

Carlos Alcaraz — not four-time defending champion Novak Djokovic — and Iga Swiatek were seeded No. 1 for Wimbledon on Wednesday, as expected, because the All England Club adhered to the ATP and WTA rankings. Alcaraz overtook Djokovic atop the men’s standings on Monday. Djokovic has not played since collecting his men’s record 23rd Grand Slam title at the French Open on June 11 and slid to No. 2, while Alcaraz rose one spot after winning a grass-court tuneup tournament at Queen’s Club on Sunday. Djokovic has collected the championship at Wimbledon each of the past four times it was held — and seven times overall — but he did […]

Mets star closer Edwin Diaz says he hopes to return this season

New York Mets closer Edwin Diaz has not ruled out returning before the end of the campaign, saying his injured knee is progressing well. Diaz, speaking to the media for the first time since tearing his right patellar tendon while celebrating at the World Baseball Classic, said Wednesday that his knee “is doing right” and that his recovery is going “in a good direction.” While the typical recovery timeline for his injury is around eight months, Diaz offered a more optimistic prognosis. “I might throw this season,” he said. “As of right now, my knee is doing right. Kevin Durant, back from injury, scores 23 in winning Suns debut

It was here during All-Star Weekend 2019 that Kevin Durant solidified his decision to partner with Kyrie Irving when both became free agents the following summer. Four years later, a new partnership was unveiled in the same arena, this one with hope for a better outcome. Playing for the first time as a member of the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night, Durant showed early signs of the potentially devastating one-two punch he can form with Devin Booker in a 105-91 win to snap the Charlotte Hornets’ five-game win streak. Durant scored 23 points in 27 minutes, his jumper looking rust-free after being out since Jan. 8 while recovering from a right […]

Yankees’ Aaron Judge named AP’s top male athlete

Aaron Judge has always stood out.
