Washington Nationals great Ryan Zimmerman retires from MLB

Longtime Nationals star Ryan Zimmerman announced his retirement Tuesday, ending a decorated career in which he became the franchise leader in many major categories and boosted the team to its only World Series championship. The veteran infielder issued a statement via CAA Baseball in which he thanked the Nationals’ front office, managers and coaches, athletic trainers and medical staff, teammates, his agents and his family. “When we first met I was a 20-year-old kid fresh out of the University of Virginia,” he wrote. “I had no idea how unbelievable the next 17 years of my life were going to be.” The Nationals took Zimmerman with their […]

The deal came after the Nats’ longest-tenured player opted out of the coronavirus-shortened 2020 season. “If I can settle into this role and do well this year, by no means does this have to be my last year,” Zimmerman said on a video call with reporters. “At least that’s the way I’m looking at it.” Zimmerman, 36, is a two-time All-Star and bats right-handed. His playing time likely will […]

Ryan Zimmerman gives Washington life with big home run

Ryan Zimmerman has spent his whole professional career with the Washington Nationals. He’s the franchise’s leader in hits, home runs and runs batted in. However, he may not have ever delivered a bigger hit. In Monday’s game four of the best-of-five National League Division Series, with his team clinging to a 2-1 lead vs. the two-time defending National League champion Dodgers, Zimmerman clubbed a towering three-run home run to give Washington a 5-1 lead. Nationals ace Max Scherzer scattered four hits and one run over seven innings to earn the victory. Virginia Beach’s Daniel Hudson, a former Old Dominion University […]
