New York Mets hire Buck Showalter as new manager

The New York Mets have hired Buck Showalter as their new manager, team owner Steven Cohen revealed Saturday on Twitter. Showalter received a three-year contract, according to a person familiar with the deal. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the length of the agreement had not been announced. Showalter, 65, takes over for Luis Rojas, who was fired after a season in which the team held on to first place for 103 days but ultimately concluded 77-85 and missed the playoffs. Houston Astros bench coach Joe Espada and Tampa Bay Rays bench coach Matt Quatraro also were candidates for the […]

Chicago Bulls Sign Forward Alize Johnson to Two-Year Deal

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the 25-year-old power forward has signed a two-year $3.6 million deal with Arturas Karnisovas and Co.   In desperate need of depth at power forward after missing out on both Paul Millsap and LaMarcus Aldridge, Johnson entered the picture as a possibility when the Nets waived him late last week.   On a Monday where the Bulls also reportedly added both Stanley Johnson and Matt Thomas, Alize Johnson is easily the most intriguing signing. He might have the fewest professional matches under his belt, but he does provide better size and physicality for this team to slot into […]

Carlos Correa open to long-term contract with Houston Astros, if done before season starts

If the Houston Astros want to sign shortstop Carlos Correa to a long-term deal, he says they need to do it before Opening Day. “I feel so good, my body feels so great and I feel like I’m going to have such a great season that once the season starts, I don’t want to be involved with or distracted with those conversations,” Correa stated Monday after the Astros held their first full-squad workout of the spring. The Astros avoided arbitration with Correa, who can become a free agent at the end of the season, by signing him to a one-year, $11.7 million contract. […]

Multiple media outlets reported earlier Monday that Kim was traveling to the United States ahead of the Jan. 1 deadline for MLB teams to sign posted KBO players. Bucs pass-rusher Shaq Barrett accepts franchise tender, files designation grievance

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will have Shaquil Barrett in 2020, but it’s uncertain how much the team will pay him. Barrett informed the club he would accept the franchise tag Friday, but filed a grievance over the Bucs tagging him as a linebacker instead of a defensive end. Barrett, 27, has $2 million in reasons for filing that grievance, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. That’s how much extra money Barrett would have made had the Bucs designated him as a defensive end. Players who accept the franchise tag are paid based on the top-5 highest-paid players at their position. Franchised defensive ends are expected […]

TE Greg Olsen joining Seahawks on 1-year deal

The first domino of the Seattle Seahawks’ offseason plans has fallen into place. Late Tuesday afternoon, ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported former Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen signed with the Seahawks, a move that was later confirmed by the team. It had been reported earlier in February by Schefter himself there was mutual interest between the Seahawks and Olsen. Now the rumors have become reality as Seattle has made the first headlines of the impending free agency season. This is a great low risk, high reward signing for the Seahawks. With only $5.5 million guaranteed to Olsen, Seattle certainly isn’t […]

Max Muncy signs deal with Dodgers

Coming off an All-Star appearance in 2019, the Los Angeles Dodgers have rewarded Max Muncy with a contract extension.  Los Angeles announced the deal Thursday after The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported Muncy’s deal is worth $26 million over three years and includes a fourth-year team option for $13 million. Muncy’s deal comes as the Dodgers continue to wait for their acquisition of Mookie Betts and David Price as part of a three-team deal with the Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins to become finalized.  ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported that trade is currently on hold after the Red Sox “were spooked” by their medical review of Twins pitching prospect Brusdar Graterol. Graterol, 21, had Tommy […]
