New York Yankees unsure of injury progress due to MLB lockout

Major League Baseball’s lockout has left the Yankees unaware of how DJ LeMahieu, Aaron Hicks, Jameson Taillon and Darren O’Day are progressing following surgery. Hicks, rehabbing from a May 26 operation to repair a torn tendon sheath in his left wrist, hit .265 (13-for-49) in 12 matches with Leones del Escogido of the Dominican Winter League in late November and early December. He had one homer, nine RBIs, four walks, 10 strikeouts and two steals. LeMahieu had sports hernia surgery on Oct. 12, Taillon right ankle tendon surgery on Oct. 28 and O’Day had left hamstring surgery on July 21, the same day outfielder Tim Locastro had surgery […]

The Lakers stated Ariza, 36, will be reevaluated in approximately eight weeks. Syndergaard sharp in brief return, Mets sweep Marlins in DH

Noah Syndergaard looked sharp in his brief but long-awaited return from Tommy John surgery, and the New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins 2-1 in nine innings Tuesday night for a doubleheader sweep. Javier Báez dashed home from third base with the winning run in extra innings as Anthony Bass (3-9) fumbled James McCann’s slow bouncer between the mound and home plate. In the opener, Francisco Lindor homered and drove in three runs to help the Mets stop a five-game losing streak with a 5-2 triumph. Marcus Stroman went five innings for his 10th victory. Victor Oladipo agrees to stay with Miami Heat on 1-year deal

Free agent Victor Oladipo agreed to a one-year, minimum deal to stay with the Miami Heat, a source told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Wednesday. He will continue to rehab his quadriceps tendon injury through the start of the campaign, a source told ESPN. Oladipo, 29, emerged as an All-NBA player with the Indiana Pacers in a breakout 2017-18 season but has struggled with consistency in his comeback from a devastating knee injury he suffered in 2019. After being obtained by the Heat, Oladipo injured his knee in April and didn’t play the rest of the season after he opted to have season-ending surgery on his […]

James Paxton’s first season back with the Seattle Mariners has come to an unexpected end, as the left-hander will undergo season-ending surgery, manager Scott Servais stated last Tuesday. Paxton, 32, went on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a forearm strain in his pitching arm after leaving his first start of the season in the second inning after 24 pitches. Paxton was 41-26 with a 3.42 ERA for the Mariners from 2013 to 2018, striking out 617 and walking 168 in 582⅓ innings. He was traded […]

New York Yankees’ Gio Urshela likely out 3 months after elbow surgery

New York Yankees third baseman Gio Urshela had surgery Friday to remove a bone chip from his right elbow, and the team stated his expected recovery time is three months. Urshela is likely to miss about half of spring training, which starts in mid-February, and will have just a few weeks to get into shape ahead of the opener versus Toronto on April 1. Yankees head team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad operated at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. Urshela was bothered by his throwing arm for much of the pandemic-shortened campaign. He was placed on the 10-day injured list with a bone spur in his right […]

Stephen Strasburg to have season-ending surgery

Stephen Strasburg’s season is over. The Washington Nationals transferred the star right-hander to the 60-day disabled list Saturday. Nationals manager Dave Martinez said Strasburg will undergo carpal tunnel surgery on Wednesday. Strasburg, last year’s World Series MVP, was first placed on the injured list Aug. 15 with carpal tunnel neuritis of the right hand. “Hopefully, surgery goes well,” Martinez stated. “The biggest thing is that surgery relieves anything he has, and he’s able to rehab and come back strong next spring training. Long-term goal, that’s what we’re hoping for.” Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo called it “a repetition injury” and he expects […]

Jets WR Quincy Enunwa not giving up on playing again despite career-threatening neck injury

New York Jets wide receiver Quincy Enunwa, fighting a career-threatening neck injury that will keep him off the field in 2020, still hopes to play again one day. But that decision, he said, no longer is in his control. In an interview with ESPN, Enunwa stated Wednesday it was “devastating” to learn recently he had been ruled out for the season. Now, he said, the only thing he can do is play the waiting game. “If I’m capable of playing, then that’s what I’ll do,” he said, making his first public comments since the end of the campaign. “If it comes down […]

Jazz’s Bojan Bogdanovic to undergo season-ending wrist surgery

At this point, we still don’t know if the 2019-20 NBA season will be restarted. But if it is, the Utah Jazz will be without one of their key contributors, as forward Bojan Bogdanovic is set to have season-ending surgery on his right wrist, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The surgery will repair the scapholunate ligament in his right wrist. Bogdanovic initially injured the wrist in January, but he continued to play through the pain. Now, with the future of the season undefined, Bogdanovic has decided to make the move for surgery. The good news for the Jazz, who signed Bogdanovic to a four-year deal […]
