San Diego Padres fire Jayce Tingler after falling short of big goals

The San Diego Padres have fired Jayce Tingler, who presided over the biggest collapse in franchise history just a season after finishing second in voting for National League Manager of the Year. President of baseball operations and general manager A.J. Preller announced the move Wednesday, three days after the Padres finished 79-83 and in third place in the NL West, 28 games behind the San Francisco Giants. Tingler will be given the chance to stay in the organization. “Jayce accomplished a great deal in his two seasons with the Padres, leading our team through an unprecedented pandemic and into the postseason for the […]

Texas Rangers’ Jose Leclerc to miss extended time with elbow issue

The Texas Rangers have another potential long-term elbow issue with a late-inning reliever they hoped to count on in a rebuilding campaign. One-time closer Jose Leclerc has returned to Texas because of right elbow soreness, a setback that comes about two weeks after fellow right-hander Jonathan Hernandez was detected with a sprained elbow ligament. General manager Chris Young stated Monday the club won’t know how long Leclerc will be out until after he is examined by team physician Dr. Keith Meister. The 22-year-old reported the soreness after a […]

Rangers´ Corey Kluber pitches for fist time since arm broken

Corey Kluber faced major league hitters for the first time in 10 months — in a new uniform, no less — and said he didn’t feel any different. “Maybe a little bit beforehand,” the Texas Rangers right-hander said Sunday after throwing three innings versus the Los Angeles Dodgers. “But once you get out there and start stretching, playing catch, getting loose in the bullpen, all that stuff kinda goes away. “It just turns into another start, whether it’s the regular season or spring training. That’s kind of how everything usually goes for me.” It was Kluber’s first time facing a […]
