Blake Snell stunned but excited by move to San Diego Padres as trade finalized

Blake Snell gave up the ball in Game 6 of the World Series, shaking his head after manager Kevin Cash’s curious pitching change. With three years left on his contract, Snell hardly considered that could be his final moment as a Tampa Bay Ray. The San Diego Padres, determined to go all the way, just wanted him that much. The upstart Padres ended their acquisition of the ace left-hander from the Rays on Tuesday, sending four prospects in exchange for the 2018 American League Cy Young Award winner. The Rays will receive right-handers Luis Patino and Cole Wilcox and catchers Francisco Mejia and […]

Pittsburgh Pirates trade Josh Bell to Washington Nationals

First baseman Josh Bell has been traded from the Pittsburgh Pirates to the Washington Nationals, it was informed Thursday. In return, the Pirates will get young pitchers Wil Crowe, who made his debut with the Nationals in 2020, and Eddy Yean. “We are thrilled to be adding a player of Josh Bell’s caliber to our team,” Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo said in a statement. “He adds a switch-hitting power bat to our lineup. And we know Josh will be an outstanding addition to our clubhouse and our community.” The 28-year-old Bell was an All-Star in 2019 following a torrid first half in which he hit […]

James Harden rejects Rockets extension; focus on trade to Nets

After turning down the opportunity to become the first $50 million per year player in league history, Houston Rockets All-NBA guard James Harden has made it clear to ownership that he’s singularly focused on a trade to the Brooklyn Nets, sources told ESPN. As Harden’s conversations with the Nets’ stars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving ramped up in recent weeks on the West Coast, sources said the Rockets made a pitch for him to sign the maximum admissible extension — two years and $103 million on top of the remaining three years, $133 million on his current deal. So far, Harden’s determination to get to Brooklyn has resulted in […]

Cleveland Indians trade ace Mike Clevinger to San Diego Padres

The San Diego Padres, more a curiosity than a contender to start August, will exit the month with a stunningly revamped roster equipped to win the World Series now – and for many years to come. A feverish three-day run of acquisitions hit its apex Monday morning when the Padres acquired a legitimate No. 1 starter, Mike Clevinger, in a nine-player trade with the Cleveland Indians, the seventh and most significant player added to a club that’s won 10 of its last 13 matches and is a playoff lock in this pandemic-shortened season. The teams announced the trade Monday afternoon. […]

Possible Pirates trade chip Keone Kela placed on injured list

The Pirates announced Thursday that they’ve placed right-hander Keone Kela and infielder Colin Moran on the injured list. Kela heads to the 10-day IL with forearm tightness, while Moran is on the 7-day concussion list. Both moves are retroactive to Aug. 24. Righty Nick Mears and infielder Will Craig were recalled in a pair of corresponding moves. The IL placement for Kela significantly hampers the team’s ability to extract a meaningful return in a trade for the righty, who’d been the Pirates’ most obvious trade chip prior to Monday’s deadline. He can technically still be traded even while on the IL, but he won’t be entitled for activation […]

New York Jets trade Jamal Adams to Seattle Seahawks

One of the Seahawks’ goals heading into 2020 was to improve a defense that didn’t live up to expectations last campaign, and on Saturday they made a big move to improve on that side of the ball, acquiring All-Pro and Pro-Bowl safety Jamal Adams in a trade with the New York Jets, pending physicals. To obtain one of the game’s top defensive players, the Seahawks are sending to the Jets first and third-round picks in next year’s draft, a first-rounder in 2022, and safety Bradley McDougald. The Jets are sending a 2022 fourth-round pick to Seattle in addition to Adams, […]

Rb Raheem Mostert request trade from 49ers

After demanding a raise the 49ers refused to give him, running back Raheem Mostert now has requested a trade, according to his agent, Brett Tessler. Mostert signed a three-year extension with the 49ers in 2019 that pays him $2.9 million per season—it’s a special-teams contract, as his agent pointed out. He had just 42 career carries before last season. But midway through the 2019 season, he became the 49ers lead running back and led the NFL in yards per carry with 5.6. He was one of the main reasons the 49ers went to the Super Bowl; they might not have […]

Nestor Cortes jr traded from Yankees to Mariners from signing bonus allocation

The New York Yankees announced Monday pitcher Nestor Cortes Jr. was traded to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for international signing bonus pool money.  The left-hander ended 2019 with 5.67 ERA and 1.545 WHIP in 33 appearances last season, including one start. He also struck out 69 batters in 66.2 innings during his lone season in New York. The 24-year-old came up through the Yankees system but was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2017 Rule 5 draft. He made four appearances in 2018, posting a 7.71 ERA, before being offered back to the Yankees a month into the season. Though Cortes has struggled at […]
