Devin Haney requests NYSAC overturn loss to Ryan Garcia

Boxer Devin Haney, in a letter to the New York State Athletic Commission obtained by ESPN, formally requested Saturday that last month’s loss to Ryan Garcia be overturned to a disqualification victory after Garcia’s failed doping test. Garcia’s A-sample tested positive for the anabolic agent ostarine the day before and the night of his majority-decision win over Haney in Brooklyn. Garcia’s B-sample will be examined May 22. The tests were conducted by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA). If Garcia (25-1, 20 KOs) is found culpable, the result could be changed to a no contest or, if Haney’s request is granted, a DQ loss for […]

Novak Djokovic falls to Alejandro Tabilo in Italian Open upset

Novak Djokovic put on one of his worst performances at one of his favorite tournaments as he was upset by 29th-seeded Alejandro Tabilo in the third round of the Italian Open on Sunday. It was Djokovic’s first match since accidentally getting knocked on the head by a water bottle while signing autographs after his opening win Friday, and he said the “unfortunate” incident affected him on court. “That has really impacted me a lot. After that I got medical care, been through half-an-hour, an hour of nausea, dizziness and blood,” Djokovic said at a news conference, adding that he would go for scans later. “I […]

Jalen Brunson returns from injury, sparks Knicks to 2-0 lead

New York Knicks center Isaiah Hartenstein stated he heard the roar from the locker room. Jalen Brunson, who had exited with a right foot injury late in the first quarter of Wednesday night’s Game 2 versus the Indiana Pacers, had returned to the Madison Square Garden floor during halftime to see if he could push through the pain. The moment he walked through the tunnel, the crowd erupted. It was a noise so loud that Hartenstein and his teammates said they heard it from their lockers, and so intense that Brunson pleaded fans to tone things down so he could find the mental clarity […]

McLaren’s Norris says Miami GP win was a matter of ‘when’ not ‘if’

Lando Norris stated he knew his first Formula One conquest was a matter of when, not if, and that he never shared the doubts of his harshest critics. Norris won at the Miami circuit which snakes around the outside of the Hard Rock Stadium, his first in 110 starts. Before Sunday he had the unenviable record of the most podium finishes without winning. The Englishman has for a long time been considered one of the sport’s most exciting talents but until Sunday had been unable to convert it to a victory. Talor Gooch gets special invitation to the PGA Championship

Talor Gooch of LIV Golf gets to play in at least one major this year. He revealed Monday on social media that he received an invitation to play in the PGA Championship next week. The PGA of America is not expected to release the full field until Tuesday as it waits to hear back from all the players who were offered invitations for Valhalla. Gooch’s invitation is significant because he rarely plays outside the LIV Golf schedule. His invitation was based purely on his performance in the Saudi-funded league. Gooch won three times on LIV last year and topped its points list. Kerry […]

Liverpool back on track with 4-2 win over hapless Spurs

Liverpool finally found some form in a 4-2 Premier League triumph over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday in much-loved manager Juergen Klopp’s penultimate game at Anfield. Strikes from Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, Cody Gakpo and Harvey Elliott secured a much needed victory for Klopp’s men, who had won one of their previous five league matches and seen their title challenge crumble. While still mathematically in with a chance finishing top of the pile, they are five points off leaders Arsenal in the table with two games left and four points behind holders Manchester City, who have a game in hand over both. “It was a disappointing few weeks where the results were not what we […]

With the win, the Knicks advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals for a second consecutive season — a feat the franchise hasn’t accomplished since 2000, when it did so for a ninth consecutive time. Top-seeded Sinner, Nadal, Swiatek all advance at Madrid Open

Rafael Nadal tore his headband off, thrust his arms in the air, and soaked up the cheers. It was only a second-round victory, but coming from where Nadal had been just a few weeks ago when he couldn’t even get on the court, he could have been savoring a trophy. He had just defeated 11th-ranked Alex de Minaur 7-6 (6), 6-3 at the Madrid Open on Saturday, avenging a straight-set loss to the Australian less than two weeks ago. Nadal is no longer aiming to add to his 92 titles after being decimated by injuries in recent years. The 37-year-old just wants to […]

Cubs’ Pete Crow-Armstrong gets 1st MLB hit with tiebreaking home run

Pete Crow-Armstrong hit a tiebreaking two-run homer for his first major league hit, and the Chicago Cubs swept the Houston Astros with a 3-1 victory on Thursday. Houston has lost a season-high five consecutive and eight of nine overall. At 7-19, it is off to its worst 26-game start since it was 6-20 in 1969. First-year manager Joe Espada was ejected by plate umpire Jansen Visconti in the top of the ninth. “I just did not agree with his strike zone all day,” Espada said after his first ejection as a big league manager. Crow-Armstrong was recalled from Triple-A Iowa when Cody Bellinger was placed on the 10-day […]
