Chris Paul steadies Warriors in return, keys win off bench

Golden State Warriors guard Chris Paul pointed twice during a possession late in the third quarter of Tuesday’s victory over the Washington Wizards, directing his teammates where to go. In response, Klay Thompson slowly walked to the left side of the 3-point arc while Jonathan Kuminga quickly came in to set a screen. As the defenders came off the screen, they both stuck with Thompson on the perimeter, leaving a wide-open lane for Kuminga. Paul lobbed the ball up for the third-year forward, who completed the alley-oop. “That’s what Chris does,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “He gets you organized, he gets you good looks. All season long, […]

Warriors assistant Dejan Milojević, 46, dies after heart attack

Golden State Warriors assistant coach Dejan Milojević, a mentor to two-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic and a former star player in his native Serbia, died Wednesday in Utah after suffering a heart attack, the team revealed. Milojević, part of the staff that helped the Warriors collect the 2022 NBA championship, was 46. Milojević died in Salt Lake City, where he was hospitalized Tuesday night after a medical emergency during a private team dinner. The Warriors had been arranged to play the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night, a game the NBA postponed. “We are absolutely devastated by Dejan’s sudden passing,” coach Steve Kerr said in a […]

Warriors’ Chris Paul tossed by Scott Foster after 2 technicals

Wednesday night’s game between the Warriors and Suns added another incident to the long conflict between Golden State’s Chris Paul and referee Scott Foster when Paul was ejected after Foster slapped him with two quick technical fouls. It was Paul’s seventh career ejection. “It’s personal,” Paul said. “We had a situation some years ago and it’s personal. The league knows. Everybody knows. There was a meeting and all of that. … I’m OK with a ref saying whatever they’re saying, but don’t use a tech to get your point across.” With 23 seconds left in the second quarter, Phoenix forward Kevin Durant drew a foul on Paul, who […]

Draymond Green to miss rest of Golden State Warriors’ preseason

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green will miss the remaining two games of the preseason as he recovers from a left lateral ankle sprain, the Warriors revealed Tuesday, putting his status for the regular-season opener up in the air. Warriors coach Steve Kerr stated Green is considered “questionable” for their first game of the regular season, which is slated for Oct. 24 versus the Phoenix Suns. Green has been cleared to begin light on-court workouts, such as shooting drills, but will not return to full team practice or scrimmages yet. He will be reevaluated again on Sunday. “I just talked to him and he […]

Thompson vows Warriors contract situation won’t be distraction this season

Klay Thompson is entering an important part of his NBA career. The four-time champion will play his 13th NBA season with the Warriors, which also happens to be a contract year for Thompson as he is set to be a free agent in 2024. Thompson is looking at this season with a clear mind, though, and guaranteed the pressure that comes with a contract year won’t be a distraction over the course of the season. “It’s not going to be a thing,” Thompson told The Athletic’s Anthony Slater. “The fact that I’m going into my 13th season — that alone — it gives me such peace […]

LeBron James to miss Lakers preseason opener, but is ‘100% healthy’

LeBron James won’t be on the court with the Los Angeles Lakers for their preseason opener versus the Golden State Warriors on Saturday. James and the Lakers, however, aren’t concerned one bit. Despite being the oldest player in the league, and coming off a season where he missed 27 matches due to a right foot injury, James is “100% healthy.” “He looks fine,” coach Darvin Ham said Thursday, via ESPN. “He looks like third- or fourth-year LeBron.” James averaged 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 6.8 assists last season, his fifth with the Lakers. James, however, has yet to play a full season since arriving in Los […]

Draymond Green declines player option, to become free agent

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green is declining his $27.6 million player option and will enter unrestricted free agency, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Monday. “We will continue to talk to Golden State and explore all options,” Paul told ESPN. It was expected Green would opt out; now he can talk with the Warriors as well as explore sign-and-trades and free agency. The Warriors, though, have been motivated to sign Green to a new deal, sources said. The four-time All-Star has been a pillar of the Warriors’ dynasty over the past decade after being drafted with the 35th […]

Warriors president-general manager Bob Myers steps down

Golden State’s Bob Myers, a two-time executive of the year and architect of four NBA championships with the Warriors, is stepping down as the franchise’s president and general manager. “It’s just time,” Myers told ESPN. Myers, whose contract expires in late June, declined ownership offers on a new deal that would’ve paid him among the league’s top-earning executives, he stated. Myers described the decision-making process that led him to leave the franchise after 12 years as including several factors beyond money. Myers, 48, said he’s unsure of his future professional pathway, but should he someday decide to return to the […]

Draymond Green gets 1-game ban; Sabonis questionable for Game 3

The NBA has suspended Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green for one game for stepping on the chest of the Sacramento Kings’ Domantas Sabonis, the league revealed Tuesday night. “The suspension was based in part on Green’s history of unsportsmanlike acts,” the NBA said in a statement. Green will serve his suspension Thursday when the Warriors host the Kings for Game 3 at Chase Center. Sacramento holds a 2-0 lead in the series. The incident between Green and Sabonis occurred with 7:03 left in the fourth quarter of the Kings’ 114-106 Game 2 win Monday. After Sabonis slipped and fell in the paint, he grabbed Green’s […]

Kings beat Warriors 114-106 to take 2-0 series lead

As the referees went to the replay monitor to determine whether Draymond Green should be ejected for his hard stomp, the Sacramento Kings took that time to regroup and make sure they didn’t lose focus down the stretch. De’Aaron Fox and crew took over from there and delivered the Kings a 2-0 series lead that has the defending NBA champions reeling. Fox scored 24 points and made a backbreaking 3-pointer that led the playoff newcomer Kings to a 114-106 victory Monday night for their second consecutive victory over the Golden State Warriors. “I think that brought us together,” Fox said. “We huddled up and were like, […]
