Usman Nurmagomedov and Johnny Eblen defend their titles in September

First up is a main event for the lightweight world championship on Saturday, September 7 at the Bellator Champions Series in San Diego, where Usman Nurmagomedov (17-0, 1 NC) looks to stay undefeated and defend his middleweight title by facing Alexander Shabliy (23-3), a man who hasn’t suffered a loss in eight years.

One week later, on Saturday, September 14, the Bellator Middleweight World Championship will be on the line in the main event of the Bellator Champions Series in London, when undefeated Johnny Eblen (15-0) once again faces Englishman Fabian Edwards (13-3).

PFL CEO Peter Murray said: “September is going to be a great month for the Bellator Champions Series and we continue to step up our game to deliver incredible cards that we know the MMA community around the world will love.

“Both San Diego and London are huge markets for us and we are confident we will deliver a show that the fans in attendance and those watching around the world on Max and DAZN deserve.

“Our world-class roster has enabled us to hold two cards in two weeks, and you will see that the future is incredibly bright for PFL and Bellator as we announce more fights and events.”

Both Bellator Champions Series events can be watched live on Max in the US and only on DAZN in the UK.

Nurmagomedov vs Shabliy

This fight for the lightweight world championship was initially scheduled to take place in May at the Bellator Champions Series in Paris and has been eagerly awaited ever since it became possible.

At just 26 years old, Usman Nurmagomedov has proven that he is one of the most dominant champions in the sport.

In seven fights with Bellator, Nurmagomedov remained undefeated and earned a world title in a division many consider to be the toughest in the sport.

The Khabib Nurmagomedov protégé dethroned former lightweight world champion Patricky Pitbull and defended his title against MMA legend Benson Henderson en route to this September 7 match.

Alexander Shabliy, a striking specialist who has amassed an 8-0 record for Bellator, has also defeated the top tier of the 155-pound division, including the aforementioned Pitbull and Tofiq Musayev, and scored an impressive second-round knockout of former Bellator lightweight champion Brent Primus.

Eblen vs Edwards

In a 2023 rematch, Johnny Eblen and Fabian Edwards pushed each other to the limit in their first meeting in Dublin at Bellator 299, where Eblen ended the fight by third-round TKO and emotions ran high immediately afterward.

Since then, the American Top Team standout has picked up a victory over Impa Kasanganay at PFL vs. Bellator: Champs vs. Champs for the super middleweight belt, while Edwards bounced back to earn his rematch with a unanimous decision win over Canadian Aaron Jeffery at Bellator Champions Series Belfast last March.
