Aaron Hicks feels ready to return to NY Yankees’ roster after elbow injury

Fresh off a three-game sweep of the Twins in the ALDS, the Yankees could be getting even more help for the ALCS.

Center fielder Aaron Hicks told the Associated Press on Tuesday that he is “definitely ready to go out there and play.”

Hicks hasn’t suited up for the Yankees since Aug. 3 due to a right elbow flexor strain. He also suffered a setback during his recovery, making it unclear if he would play again in 2019.

But while the Yankees have pushed to make their way into the ALCS, Hicks was working hard behind the scenes in Tampa, and now believes he’s healthy enough to return to action.

“That’s really what I’m getting ready for is to get back and play in the playoffs. Get back to playing baseball,” Hicks told the AP.

“I’m pretty much doing everything,” added Hicks, who is facing live pitching and throwing to bases. After starting the season on the Injured List due to a back issue, Hicks was only able to play 59 games for the Bombers. He’s .235 on the season, but provided some pop with 12 home runs while playing superb defense in center field.

If Hicks is indeed able to return, it would create a bit of an overcrowded outfield, with Giancarlo Stanton, Brett Gardner, and Aaron Judge penciled in as starts from left to right, with Cameron Maybin also on the roster as the fourth outfielder.

The veteran wants to be a part of any future Yankees clubhouse celebrations after missing the last two clinching games.

“It’s the second time that they celebrated without me, so it’s one of those things that you just want to be part of it,” Hicks said. “It is tough.” Hicks is among a number of Yankees who worked out at the team’s facility in Tampa during the ALDS. The list also includes Clint Frazier, Mike Ford, Jordan Montgomery, and Stephen Tarpley, along with Miguel Andujar and Greg Bird, who are both out for the season.
